Recently Starbucks has come under attack for their support of rodeo by animal rights groups. It may not sound like a big deal but if theses groups succeed at convincing even one major sponsor to back out it gives them leverage with others. To help counter the pressure from other groups the rodeo community is asking that rodeo fans show their support for the companies sponsorships. Here is the information that was posted at Rodeo Attitude: Starbuck's We Love You!
It is no secret that SHARK wants to put an end to rodeo. It is also no secret the position Rodeo Attitude takes against SHARK and its activities. Now they are making waves for Starbuck's because they were kind enough to sponsor some local rodeo events. Please take the time to do help us in our fight. First, visit the sites below and let Starbuck's know Rodeo Loves Them! Second, tell everyone you know. Defend Starbuck's against this unfair attack by SHARK. Thank you! www.buckstarbucks.com (the original animal rights site to see what they are saying) Here is the link to the Starbucks Site to leave comments: www.starbucks.com/customer/contact_forms.asp?nav=3f

I gave them hell... Read on...
Your Message Has Been Sent My vote is for Starbucks
Thank you for supporting Rodeo and participating in Cheyenne Frontier Days. If the Peta or Shark groups want to know what animal cruelity really looks like, they should visit a horse meat processing plant (yes they do exist in this country). I participated in rodeo events through high school and college, and currently assist coaching equestrian events at college level. As a parent, I have seen more blood at soccer events than rodeo. If their camera's search hard enough they will find unsightly moments at almost any sport. Our office enjoys Starbucks mild brew every morning and your Starbucks Barista Aroma coffee maker sits proudly in the kitchen next to rodeo memoribilia. Thank you, Charlie Monks, Franklin, Tennessee cowboy4443@bellsouth.net

i didnt save my email to shark, but i promise you that it was awesome. i went throught their site and "graded" their site. I went and gave a reason why almost everything on their site was wrong. But they are still dead set on "steer busting" and calf roping. Let me ask you one question, at ahow many rodeos will you see the steer tripping event? i have been going since i was 6 months old(dad was a bull fighter). and i cant remember ever seeing it. but here is the email.
Cody,
Although we have more evidence of rodeo animal abuse than we could ever use, your argument that rodeo animals are well-treated is derailed with only two words -- Steer Busting. Next called steer tripping, but now called single steer roping by an ever more paranoid and politically correct Rodeo Mafia, the rodeo world should be ashamed of steer busting, and it is. That's why you try to cover it up by holding it at obscure times, often in slack. Like the abused calves they aren't worth thousands, and they are given numbers instead of names. The calves and steers especially are throwaways for cruel and cowardly frauds posing as protectors of Western culture.
Your leaders, commissioners Ellerman in the PRCA and Murray in the PBR, are cowards unable and unwilling to debate because your history of cruelty and deception is so well-documented. Pass this around. Maybe if you and your sorry little friends get together they can call Ellerman and Murray out. I would love that.
Regards,
Steve Hindi Showing Animals Respect and Kindness (SHARK)

"Like the abused calves they aren't worth thousands, and they are given numbers instead of names".
I wonder if the last "Cheeseburger" Mr Steve Hindi had came with a name or number. Cowboy4443

I can't believe they said that. It makes me really mad. But they'll never get the point.

No sense messing with Hindi. He is all mouth. I called him on it two or three years ago, even offered to debate it with him face to face. He just gave me some BS about Ty Murray being "King of The Cowboys" and "My Leader".
Ive never heard of steer busting, but thats interesting,
I wonder how Hindi feels about those wires that tranmitted that email to you - after all, they DO have enzymes derived from animals. So much for respect and kindness towards animals.

He is talking about steer roping. that can get a little rough but not as he says it is. But there is only the steer trippin event at a select few events that i know of. I have been to alot of the major rodeos and have never seen steer trippin

Check out some of the comments from Steve Hindi of Shark.
"While in Portland I learned that Starbucks had received a phone call from movie star and committed animal activist, Alicia Silverstone, who expressed her dismay with Starbucks’ rodeo connections. Alicia reportedly was handed a SHARK flier outside a Starbucks in Westwood, California. We do not know at this time who the unsung hero was that handed her the flyer, but we appreciate it. A few days after Alicia’s phone call to Starbucks, television and movie celebrity, Ted Dansen also called Starbucks to express his discontent of their involvement with rodeos".
"The March 10 meeting with Starbucks’ Executive Liaison Matthew Murray was cordial and friendly. I told Mr. Murray that it was vital that Starbucks not put money in the pockets of rodeo animal abusers, and that rodeos not be able to use Starbucks' name or logo in an effort to legitimize their cruelty. Murray gave assurances that Starbucks would no longer give money to rodeos, nor would the company allow the rodeos to claim them as sponsors or use Starbucks' name or logo. Murray also said, however, that Starbucks' store managers regularly give free products to certain local groups and organizations and that this might include some local rodeos."
"If store managers were going to privately give away their products to rodeo organizers, that was up to them. The funny thing is that while they might consume free coffee, rodeo supporters are unlikely to pay Starbucks prices when they can get a 10 cent cup of coffee at a truck stop. Furthermore, if Starbucks wants to give coffee away, why not provide some to homeless folks, places sheltering abused women or any number of deserving causes? Instead Starbucks chooses to pander to animal abusers." ---------------------------------------------------------------------
First of all, I do not know who Alicia Silverstone is, but my inbox is always full from Silverstone Productions wanting to sell me porn. Could there be a connection?
Secondly, Matthew Murray of Starbucks either talks out both sides of his mouth or does not represent the decisions made by his employer.
Third, Even though I enjoy a comfortable lifestyle, do support Starbucks, and always respect truckers (they move this country), a 10 cent cup of coffee is not below my standards.
We need to take this guy out and show him some love.
Thanks, Cowboy4443

Cowboyup1991, I believe Shark is referring to events that are primarly held in Mexico. I have never seen cock fights or steer tripping at any sanctioned event in the states. Cowboy4443

Hmm... Alicia Silverstone... best known for her role as Cher in Clueless.. and movies when she was younger like Crush.. She has been in movies recently but they weren't exactly box office hits.
I hate how some people just join on the band wagon when they hear something. SHARK and Peta could be doing better things with their time. As Charlie said with the horse meat and even glue industry. I really can't stand people that don't try to understand things before they criticize (er-hmmm.. Danza and Silverstone!!!)

"Steer Tripping" as they call it is an optional PRCA event and is held with only select events. The finals are held in Texas each year prior to the NFR.
Now the whole why not give it to a good cause thing...let's look at the amount of money that is generated to charitable non-profits as a result of rodeos across the country each year. I know several that would not be able to survive if it were not for the money they receive from these events. Not to mention the profound positive impact rodeo has on the people that participate in the event.
As far as celebrity endorsements, not only do the ones they cite all sound like he said she said but do we really take them seriously?
