Anyone here tonight that the Carter's lost Kid Rock this afternoon? My most heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the Carter's on the loss of another legendary bull. He will be greatly missed.

I can't believe how little reaction to this. Hotel California died and it was OMG and then when a bull just as good dies nobody really says anything. Kid Rock was a superstar and he will be sorely missed.

I was shocked when I heard this last night. Having just got back into the PBR, he was one of my favorite bulls thus far. I hope his autopsy reveals some knowledge into the why he died, but then again as Mary stated we may just never know.

They were planning on taking him to a bull riding in Louisiana, but they discovered that he had a 105º temperature. They hauled him to Texas A&M to see what was wrong, and on the way he died.

From the fried twinkies blog...please go there for the full story....
Kid Rock died Saturday of complications from a throat injury, apparently suffered during a fight with another bull, Carter said.
About two hours after feeding Kid Rock and other bulls at Carter’s ranch in Crockett, Texas, Saturday morning, workmen returned to the corrals and round Kid Rock gasping for air. They managed to get the bull onto a truck in hopes of getting him to the veterinarian at Texas A&M. But Kid Rock died during the drive.
The autopsy showed Kid Rock suffered blunt force to the larynx, apparently the result of a bull horn hitting Kid Rock’s throat during a tussle, Carter said. The injury led to breathing trouble and to an apparent heart attack, according to Carter, who said he’s still awaiting final details from the autopsy conducted by a veteranian at Texas A&M.

I'm sure most of you have seen, but this was what was on the PBR site:
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 4, 2006) - The unfortunate passing of Roy Carter Bucking Bulls' 13X Kid Rock on Saturday, April 1, 2006 was a sad day for bull riding fans and bucking bull breeders alike. Kid Rock maintained an incredible streak of buck offs from the time he burst onto the Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) tour in 2003. Following his debut at the BFTS event in Tampa, Fla. during the winter of 2003, Kid Rock went unridden until Sevi Torturo's spectacular 92.5 point effort at the 2003 PBR World Finals. 1994 and 2001 PBR World Champion Adriano Moraes (Sao Paulo, Brazil) made the only qualified ride on record during the 2004 season when the two crossed paths in Bossier City, La. Kid Rock cranked out one stunning performance after another and was ridden only seven times in 46 BFTS career outs, launching 84.8% of all challengers. Born in 1999, Kid Rock was a world class athlete proving his abilities at the most elite level of the sport against the greatest bull riders in the world. Kid Rock was the third runner-up for PBR World Champion Bull honors in 2005, fifth in 2004, and the 2003 Reserve World Champion PBR Bull.
Crockett, Texas based stock contractor Roy Carter was hard-pressed to find the right words to explain the loss of Kid Rock. "I don't know I really just don't know what to say. It's been really tough. He was like a kid to me. In fact when we were in Tampa a couple of years ago, my son was there since he was attending the University of Florida and I met his girlfriend for the first time. After the bull riding, we were walking back to see Kid Rock and my son asked his girlfriend, 'would you like to meet my brother?' I guess that about sums up how much we all thought of him."
Added Carter, "It's been hard on our family, my mom and dad and my brother especially." On a positive note, Carter said that he has quite a few calves on the ground sired by Kid Rock as well as a lot of cows bred to the bull and straws of semen collected. "I know, like they say, everything happens for a reason and somehow there will be good to come out of this, it's just hard to see it right now."
While final autopsy results are still pending, the preliminary autopsy revealed that the cause of death was due to the complications of a throat injury. The bull's larynx was apparently damaged so severely, most likely during a tussle with another bull, that he was unable to breathe which ultimately caused a heart attack. Every effort was made to transport the bull to Texas A&M for emergency treatment; however Kid Rock died en route to the facility.

I guess some people do care including people on here who won't comment here but they will elsewhere.
Hannah Kindig Says: April 3rd, 2006 at 11:12 pm Kid Rock was definitely one of a kind, I’d seen him buck in person quite a few times… he’s one of those great bulls. There never will be another bull like him.
That story about Cole Carter made me smile, isn’t it funny how sometimes you can get that attached to your animals and it gets to the point where you really do feel like they’re family!
Rodeo Guide Says: April 4th, 2006 at 1:15 am Too bad… what a great bull. Keep up the good work Josh!
About Rodeo Everything you need to know…ABOUT RODEO!
Dee Says: April 4th, 2006 at 6:46 am My condolences to the Carter family. Like Hannah I have seen him buck in person a couple of times and he was truly a great bucker. I loved the matchup in round 2 of the finals last year between him and Justin. That bull knew he was in the spotlight and made the most of it for both bull and rider. I also had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Carter at the finals last year and there was no doubt he was very proud of and loved that bull very much.
Dee
LookWeLope Says: April 4th, 2006 at 7:19 am Condolences to the Carters. That is so sad since Hotel California just died a year ago and now Kid Rock. Mossy Oak Mudslinger is retiring, Jack Daniels Happy Hour, Blueberry Wine and LYJ just have. Just sad to see the once great bulls leaving us and Kid Rock should have eventually got the huge retirement ceremony too sad that he won’t get that and won’t get to pass on his legacy for years to come :’(
JustAPbrFan Says: April 4th, 2006 at 8:58 am Josh,
Thank you so much for posting this. You are definitely the “go to” guy.
I am curious and annoyed that the PBR as of yesterday had NOTHING on their site about Kid Rock. I do not understand why they do not think the fans care about the bulls and that this is something we want to know. I wrote letter after letter about Dillinger to PBR before someone finally confirmed that he was gone a year or so ago.
Heartfelt condolences to the Carter family.
Kid Rock you will be missed. =(
longtimefan Says: April 4th, 2006 at 10:05 am I just checked the PBR website and as far as I could see they still do not have anything posted regarding this. Maybe I just missed it but I do not think so. It kind of annoys me too. There would not be anything to buck if it weren’t for the bulls. They should at least express their sympathies on the website. My condolences to the Carter family. It is really like losing a member of the family.
Dee Says: April 4th, 2006 at 10:08 am Justapbrfan and longtimefan:
Justin and Ty made the announcement Saturday night during the live telecast and sent out condolences on behalf of themselves, the riders and the PBR. It was about 1/4 of the way through the program when one of Roy Carter’s bulls was getting ready to buck and Ty made the announcement. I haven’t seen anything on the website either, but just wanted to let everyone know that the passing of a great bull was acknowledged.
Dee
Blueberry Wine's #1 Fan Says: April 4th, 2006 at 10:10 am This is truely a great loss for the PBR. I saw Kid Rock in Greenville and Ft. Lauderdale. In Greenville, he bucked off Ross Coleman, and thats saying something! And in Ft. Lauderdale he bucked off Wiley Petersen, after the fans cheered after the announcer said his name. My prayers and concerns for Roy Carter and his family. But, I can’t wait to see The Kid Still Rocks. But Kid Rock was one helluva bull.
longtimefan Says: April 4th, 2006 at 10:46 am Dee…Thank you. I unfortunately still have DISH. We all know that story. Anyway, I was still hoping to read something about it on the PBR website. Thanks again.
Snakebite Says: April 4th, 2006 at 10:56 am It was with sadness I heard about the loss of this great bull. I know Roy really loved this one. The Bull Pen Mag is doing an article on him for their next issue.I spent one hot afternoon in Athens, TX trying to get some photos of Kid and Roy, they were published in the Bull Pen Mag. I had the pleasure of taking his last event photos while in Duncan, OK. Roy we sure hope his off spring will do him proud.
LookWeLope Says: April 4th, 2006 at 4:33 pm STILL nothing on the PBR web site not really suprising ( didn’t find the draws to last week’s event jsut results after it!) just sad because he was a celebrity at the events…..
Sojourn Says: April 4th, 2006 at 4:42 pm What is amazing to me is how the circuit admires their animals, while at the same time treat them with such disregard.
I was born and raised, living and breathing PBR. It was a performance of Kid Rock’s in Athens, Texas that made me realize the epitome of what the essence of rodeo was truly. It’s a shame.
Kay Says: April 4th, 2006 at 5:17 pm I heard Justin and Ty make the announcement Saturday night too, and still nothing on the PBR website.
When Hotel California passed away the PBR wasted no time in getting that information out. It is just not right for the PBR to slight Kid Rock.
....... Says: April 4th, 2006 at 5:52 pm Did anyone ever think that maybe the PBR was waiting to get all of the info back on the autopsy from Roy Carter before they put anything out. Fairly confident that a press release will be done on Kid Rock. You people are unbelievable.
Hoot Says: April 4th, 2006 at 5:53 pm Sojourn, what disregard do you speak of?
JustAPbrFan Says: April 4th, 2006 at 6:14 pm ……. Post 14
What you think the necropsy will show the BULL IS ALIVE? There is NO REASON for the PBR to not have this on their website, other then they just do not care. NEWSFLASH-Kid Rock is still Dead. Come on PBR, can you at least make mention of it?
Nothing was mentioned of Dillingers death on the PBR website, it was mentioned briefly on one of those bull episodes on OLN. Come on this was a TWO TIME BULL OF THE YEAR. I had to write letter after letter to the PBR to find out if it was true or not.
When the wonderful bull Jesse James died, PBR said nothing, one had to read about it on a bulletin board. Even though on the broadcast of his last out you could see there was something very wrong with the bull and Donny Gay mentioned it as well…
I think PBR only mentioned about Milleniums injury/death on their site was because he WENT DOWN during a live telecast and viewers were left with the bull being laid on to keep him from getting up and then when the shot came back you could see DRAG MARKS in the arena from them taking him out.
The PBR remains clueless to the fact that there are many of us who are fans because of these tremendous animal athletes. One has to wonder what their motivation is.
Dee Says: April 4th, 2006 at 6:17 pm It is on the website now. I just saw the headline in the whats hot section.
toronto buckaroo Says: April 4th, 2006 at 6:27 pm does anybody know what happened to Sports Machine Sunday and Chad Denton, the bull wasn’t on his game? What happened to Dillinger? I came late on this scene but admired Dillinger. I love the way these owners and care persons intermingle with their bulls, I find that fascinating how they can walk up and rub their neck and back and not get horned or head butted, I seen the cameo of Janelle Kish rubbing Cash’s head standing beside him in the feedlot and likewise with Just A Dream last week, and then to see them fly out of the bucking shoot, that totally blows me away. I love those bulls. Thanks if you can answer my two questions.
PUD Says: April 4th, 2006 at 6:36 pm I’ve said this before and I will say it again. Big Brother is watching and reading everything we write. Sorry to see a great Bull pass. Heres hoping his memory will live on in The Kid still Rocks.
JustAPbrFan Says: April 4th, 2006 at 6:46 pm Dear Toronto Buckaroo…
Regarding Dillinger…
At a PBR event years ago a certain not from America rider was in the chute on Dillinger. Dillinger, normally a good bull in the chute kicked.
No one noticed as the gate opened that he had broken a hock on one of his rear legs. He bucked with a broken leg.
The Herringtons spared no expense to save this bull from his injury and Dillinger made a recovery of a sorts.
Apparently last year it was decided to put him down to due complications from this injury.
PBR did not mention a word about this on their website. Can you believe that. Two time Bull of the Year and one of the greatest bulls of all time. Makes you go hmmmmm.
As for the intermingling with the bulls it is truely amazing.I have been lucky enough to rub on CASH while he was at the world finals. Amaazing a bull with a golden retriever attitude in the pens is a complete pro in the arena. Other “user friendly” bulls- LYJ, Promiseland, and White Line Fever. I am sure there are others, these are just ones I have personally interacted with. To me it just shows how well cared for and downright loved these guys are. It is what makes me love this sport.
Anne Says: April 4th, 2006 at 8:02 pm First, My condolence to Roy Carter, Kid Rock was an awesome bull.
Second, I find it sad that even a blog entry about the untimely death of this great bull, turns into a bitchfest about the PBR by some people instead discussing what a great bull Kid Rock was, geez people.
Hannah Kindig Says: April 4th, 2006 at 10:05 pm Anne, I agree with you. I was about to say the same thing myself.
Roy Carter Says: April 4th, 2006 at 11:36 pm I would like to take a moment to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers they have expressed on the passing of 13X Kid Rock.
I am not very good at expressing my feelings, but anyone who knows me knows how I felt about that bull, and how I am feeling at this moment.
To some of you, you might think man, he is just a bull, but that bull was a huge part of my life. Kid Rock was very proud of himself, and if you ever watched him buck you would know by the way he would make a lap around the arena after being bucked. Kid Rock loved his job, and I have to say that he succeed everytime.
Thank you all for the prayers, phone calls and e-mails!
Thank You, Roy Carter
Note: The P.B.R. had the respect not to print anything until they had gotten every detail from myself. It was not that they were avoiding the issue, they were just trying to get the story correct before they posted on the site.
Josh Peter, a special thanks goes out to you for taking time to call and get the details directly from me. I do appreciate you think of myself and my family.
Thanks again!
T-Ray Cooke Says: April 5th, 2006 at 12:51 am pbrfan.what difference does the fact that ednai isnt from the usa.the bull broke his leg no matter what country the guy was from.do you wear a pillowcase and burn crosses as well
T-Ray Cooke Says: April 5th, 2006 at 1:33 am this is from the pbr website what are you guys whineing about COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. LadyLane Says: April 5th, 2006 at 5:22 am I am so sorry for the Carters. Kid Rock was an unbelievably amazing Bull. There will never be another one quite like him.
I certainly have my issues with the PBR at times, but now is not the time to be jumping on them for taking their time to make a statement. We didn’t have the full story as to why there was a delay, which Roy Carter has now explained. This is a time of mourning and reflection on the life of a great bull. We can get on the PBRs case, for whatever, another time in the future. Now is not a good time.
Kid Rock will be missed.
LookWeLope Says: April 5th, 2006 at 6:06 am I apologize to the Carters for complaining about the PBR this is not the place to do so and I was just doing it out of frusterating. I would like to say that I understand how devasting it must be. WE have horses and they are our family and I could not imagine losing one of them, but especially our best mare.
Karen Says: April 5th, 2006 at 10:04 am I think the fact that Ty and Justin mentioned Kid Rock’s passing on the telecast is an indication they do care about the bulls. I agree that the PBR did not release anything “official” on the web site until they got all the facts. This isn’t the first story that’s been delayed on the web site, and won’t be the last. OMO, but I think it’s far better to get the facts straight before releasing information.
Carson Says: April 5th, 2006 at 12:20 pm Great bull, great stockman. God bless both. Looking forward to The Kid Still Rocks.
toronto buckaroo Says: April 5th, 2006 at 3:49 pm To JustaPBRFan:
Thanks for the info re Dillinger - may be they should implement a time limit as to how long the rider can sit the bull in the chute, sometimes I watch them and see the bull dancing and thrashing around and I think they are just wearing the bull out and I am surprised more bulls aren’t hurt, likewise the rider. Anyhow thanks for the info.
Toronto Buckaroo
Brenda Says: April 5th, 2006 at 6:54 pm Josh - first time visitor to your blog - because I walked in at the very end of the “losing Kid Rock” statement on OLN and was very busy “googling” for what happened. Thank you for posting a great, but sad, story on a great bull, thank you for honoring the Mr. Carter’s wishes. God bless to all involved.
BTW - on “user friendly” bulls - fellow North Dakotan LYJ is absolutely amazing - have seen him at numerous public events (including his local retirement party) - completely calm in public with all kinds of folks talking pictures and other commotion. Red Jacket seems to be of a similar type….
T.J. Lily Says: April 6th, 2006 at 5:04 pm Heartfelt sympathy to Roy and congrats to Josh for this great place to say what we want.
For years I have gone early to the events in St. Louis to get a glimpse of these great animals and for 3 years Kid Rock especially. In the past no one would let me close - This year a pbr staff member went and found the guy that was hauling and flanking him until Roy got there. He took 30 mintues to listen to me and how much I loved that bull and why. He explained you raised him and how dedicated you were to your whole herd and breeding champions, not just buying them. It was three hours before the event and I asked why he was there so early, and he said just in case the “Kid” needs me. My family took a picture and it was the highlight of our experience at a PBR - including the finals. Thanks Roy for raising one of the best, please thank your Kid Rock crew for sharing him with us and allowing me to teach my kids that you can’t always go buy the best..sometimes they are not for sale and hard work pays off.
