It'll be hard for Chicken ATM. I mean, he's had many spectacular outs this year, but one that was not so great (in Duluth), and the cowboys will remember that as they vote. But hey, he may still have a shot.
Right now, I think it'll be a toss-up between Copperhead Slinger and White Magic. Those two bulls have not slacked at all this year. If anything, Slinger has a better shot than Chicken IMO.
And I'm sorry, but while Reindeer is one of the most exciting bulls to watch, IMO he seems to have lost his edge. He can't seem to score high anymore, and he is no longer a short-go bull. I'd have liked to see him get a title, but I fear he may be past his prime. He did get 5th for the BOTY award in '05, but that was it. But don't get me wrong: I love watching him buck!

Where does the 2008 Bull of the Year race stand right now? I was keeping up with all the outs and stuff real well at the first of the year, but the summer break has me out of the loop a little.
From what I've seen all year, Troubador is still going to be tough to beat. The trip with Mike White in Tulsa probably solidified his nomination at the very least. He is as much of a top-five lock as it gets in the PBR, but who are the other four?
I imagine Copperhead Slinger and Chicken on a Chain will get enough votes to put them in the top five at the Finals. Voodoo Child is very deserving, even though he only has four or five outs this year. Others worth mentioning are Spit Fire, Ricky Bobby, All In, Gnash, Hot Stuff, etc.
What does everyone else think?

I'm kinda partial to Troubador but I don't know if he has enough outs this season to even be in contention.

At this point, my top 5 for the year, in no order, are:
Troubadour, All In, White Magic, Voodoo Child (perhaps not enough trips though?), and Copperhead Slinger.
Chicken on a Chain was on my list earlier, but he's kinda fallen off lately. And Cody Lambert seems to think so too. I understand he's even considering not selecting him for the Finals!
I also had Jacob's Pet on my list until his off-day with Rocky McDonald recently.
I also like the bulls Bones and Crosswired, but they've not been here long enough to make a running IMO. That said I may need to change my mind on Voodoo Child but I still feel he's been one of the best this year.

Yes I too think Copperhead Slinger has a chance, but what about Avalanche has he had a good enough year? I too have not been able to keep up with all the stats like I wanted to.

but what about Avalanche has he had a good enough year? After looking at the stats for Avalanche, his season has been better than I expected. He is unridden in 9 outs on the BFTS, and his average bull score is right at 44 points. That's a very underrated season, but it will probably be a little behind the top 5-10 PBR bulls. Still, he is a very solid bull nonetheless and should definitely be in the rank pen in Vegas.

Yeah, not sure about this year. I'd say Avalanche has a better chance to be Bull of the Finals, though. He's getting better and better IMO.

....yeah, looks like Voodoo Child may have taken himself out of the race, too. That's too bad.

Woah! We need to start watching Bones. Actually, there were a lot of impressive bulls this weekend.

I completely left out Spit Fire in my top five as well, but he belongs for sure. These bulls are coming on strong late in the season, and it's going to be tough for the riders to pick just five. And who knows how crazy the rank pen at the World Finals will be. That's going to be action-packed!

Wandering WAY off-topic here, but with all the great bulls that will be at the Finals and others that could have made the cut, am I the only one surprised that Reindeer is supposedly 'in" for sure? Yes, he was once as great a bull as any other, but the past isn't a reason for a bull to make the Final cut. I can't remember the last out he had on the BFTS (early in the spring, I believe), and he was ridden in Paso Robles for a measly 84 (and some change) by Helton Barbosa. Is he "in" only because he's being retired, and it's a sentimental thing?

Reindeer Dippin is probably on the list because some of the fans recognize his name before most of the riders' names. Regardless of how mediocre he has been the last couple years, the fans still love to watch him buck (or hop along through the arena). It's a shame he didn't develop a consistent spin too because he was so fun to watch when he was on his game.
I wasn't aware of the retirement for him, but that probably has something to do with it as well.

I don't think he's in, but could be wrong. I had thought that Lambert cut him from the Cup tour, if he didn't he should have.
