Usually Im a big fan of change, but the PBR is making some changes that are pretty hard to embrace...
Pick your bulls - This creates excitement because....? About the only exciting part of this is the riders had no idea they would be picking short go bulls until the press release was dropped.
Winner take all - The left coast has some great stock, but not an abundance. Statistically, the one day shows have been a drawing contest - a guy might draw a bull that is a good four points weaker than the next. A few great riders are going to spend money and make none because they didnt draw good enough. Wait a minute...I thought the PBR was created so riders wouldnt have to waste airfare, hotels, and entry fee's on duds?
Mileage cut for contractors - Ouch! I guess Spire execs either havent noticed or dont care about fuel prices. Youre already short-changing the heartbeat of your organization, and now this? Word on the street is a few better contractors wont be at that big NYC event.
A.T.A.N.A - All talk and no action. While there are bulls bucking in the arena, the camera is elsewhere, interviewing someone, blabbering about a new format, or discussing what happened last year. If you cant get 60 outs televised in 120 minutes, your production needs work. Why is it that I can watch all contestants in all events at the NFR, a telecast that spills over about 15 minutes past its scheduled end time? As "minor league" as you think the NFR is, atleast they can deliver the product.
Hopefully the execs dont get so caught up in cutting expenses and improving profit margins that they forget their product is bull riding.
