Like last week, I've put together a list of observations after this week's event. Among the topics discussed include: The Bull Draft Bullfighters Adriano Retiring Steroid Testing for Bulls Just click on the link below to read the entire article. I thought it was an exciting weekend. The draft didn't bother me quite as much as I thought it would, but then, as I stated before, I'm still new to the sport, so I don't have all those years of doing it the old way ingrained in me. I'd like to see it a few more times before making a final decision on it, but I don't think I'm going to have a problem with it at all.
I'm so glad the bull fighters were able to help out JB so quickly. I saw a wreck (on one of those specials they do on VS) that had a rider dragged around by his foot and he got twisted up so bad, they had what looked like half of the riders and stock contractors out there subduing the bull while Ross Coleman had to jump over the group and hack away at the bull rope with a knife. I thought we'd see the same thing last night. I wonder if that wreck is why they started carrying knives? Anyway, kudos to them for a great job.
I'd like to see Adriano win Vegas. If I'm not mistaken, while he's won the World title, he's never won the actual event?

Yeah, the wreck with Ross Johnson was crazy, and I was thinking last night's was going in that same direction. Luckily for everyone, it didn't.
You are right about Adriano not winning the World Finals. That would be fitting for sure. Good call on your part.

Didn't Ross Johnson have nearly identical wrecks that were the "Worst Wreck" two years in a row ('03/'04 or '04/'05)?? Regardless, I believe it was his wreck that prompted the bull fighters to carry knives.

Yeah, the wreck in 04 was where he was smashed up against the chute after getting hung up. The one in 2005 was the one where the rope was twisted around his leg several times, and all the bullfighters and cowboys were trying to help get him loose. Having the wreck of the year twice in a row isn't something I'd like to take part in.

Me neither.
'04 was scary because, while it wasn't so much Ross getting hit in the chute, but he got his head stomped on while he was being dragged, and was out cold. It was really scary to watch (and still is).
The draft seemed to work out okay, I guess. I still didn't like the idea of it to begin with, but as long as competition is not so rigged from this, I can live with that. With that I have to say, poor Chris Shivers. He picked maybe the best bull to have and was denied - in fact he was denied the win twice in a row already! Wow. But at least he's riding like himself again.

I didn't think I'd like the draft, but it's better than I thought it would be. It was fun to see which bull each rider would pick. If everything keeps going well with this, it may not be such a bad idea...

I thought it absolutely rocked. I, honestly, am surprised that Adriano didn't retire before this year. Last year he was really starting to look like the sport has finally taken it's toll on his body. Good luck to him this year. The bullfighters rocked, like they do every event. I was really surprised at how fast that knife came out.

I thought the draft was fun. Since it's only in the 3-day events it won't happen that often tho -

Well, we'll see how it works out in Worcester this weekend, won't we?
For some of my observations on the New York event (which rocked!), check out the "Who is going and what happened in...." section, with my little report on things (and pictures too).
