I just wanted to give two thumbs up to group W productions and all of the people involved in the Madison ET event this past weekend. Recently some of the actions of the PBR along with the loss of sponsorships has lead to a questioning of if the PBR is losing touch. The Madison event shows that the producers at the ET and CT levels have not lost touch with the fans or the riders. This is my third year to the event and it has gotten better each year. As a result, it also attracted more riders this year. The quality of the hire helped was top notch from the bullfighters (one of whom was taken from the arena with a possible broken leg but came back the next night in tape and a brace and was still the first ones in) to the funny man, to the safety man, the announcers and even the judges. The show ran smoothly, kept the crowd constantly involved, and entertained.
Most impressive though were the pen of bulls and the riders. I have been to over two dozen ET tour events and countless other association events of similar size and this was one of the best pen of bulls that I have seen. Was it a pen of all 90+ bulls…absolutely not. However, it was a pen of evenly matched bulls that every guy that rode well had a chance to take the event on. It was a rider’s pen with solid buckers and spinners. The riders were also impressive going aggressively at the bulls and most riding with true try. Most impressive though was how the guys treated the fans. They signed autographs, took pictures and gave away back numbers until every fan that waited got what they wanted. In a crowd that was filled with kids and families this was not an easy task.
To top it off Fred Boettcher the home state favorite unofficially walked away with the event win (he for sure won the second night but official averages had not yet been calculated). Great job to everyone involved and we look forward to you all coming back again next year!
