Wow, what an event in Worcester! I am always excited to see the PBR in action, but watching this weekend was even better than last weekend in NYC. I'm very happy to be a PBR fan right now. I've also posted my observations after this week's event, so go check that out by clicking the link below. On this week's menu, I talk about several topics including: My Surprise Rider of the Week My Surprise Bull of the Week Higher Rider Scores This Season (in comparison to bull scores) and more........ Observations After WorcesterAs always, I appreciate everyone who reads. You are all my motivation to keep writing my thoughts each week on the sport I love to cover.

I have a question for those who know this sport and the scoring better than I do:
I have a friend who has grown up working local bull rides with her family and has been watching PBR for years. She made a comment that she wondered if the scores were just a bit higher this year to get people to enjoy the draft? Then she commented that it sure as heck is some great viewing this year. I was curious what others with more bull riding experience thought about that theory.
Having asked that, wow! What an amazing night! I had a great time watching and told my husband that I hope Anaheim (another three day event) is as much fun.

It's still early, but that's a great question. That's also where I was going with that specific part of my blog entry. I'm not sure if the rider scores should have been higher all this time or not, but they are this season. If it should have been like that all this time, then I'm all for it. If they are just trying to beef up the scores to make the draft seem better, that's not the right way to do it.
That kind of stuff messes with history (records and so forth).
I'm no expert on rider scores by any means, so someone like artman's or csb's opinion will be better on that subject. It just seems obvious to me this season though.

That's why I have enjoyed the PBR so much. Not to put down on other rodeo or bull riding associations, but it seems like they give out 100pts too easily. The PBR has never had a 100 point ride, and I like it that way. Because someday when somebody gets that 100 points, it will be well worth it. I didn't get to see the event, so I cannot comment on the rides, but that does bring up a good point about padding the scores to make the draft more interesting, or just the PBR in general. I, as most people on here are not bull riding judges so when we hear the scores we get excited. I can make judgements about what I think the score was worth, but when you are at an event and you hear a 93, 94, 95 point score come out, you can't help but to get excited. I sure hope that's not why these guys got the scores they did. Again, I didn't see the event, so I don't know how fantastic these rides really were...

I can't comment on every ride, but Travis Briscoe's 95-point ride was worth every point. That was better than G-Man's 96.5 on LYJ in 2004 in my humble opinion.

I was sick this weekend (still am) and by the time I got to your blog, I really should've been in bed, so I missed a few things. Thanks for your input. I'm even more anxious for each event this season than I was last season. rossco4worldchamp, I hope you get to see this past weekend on a rerun sometime because Travis and Cord alone made it worth viewing.

You'll have a hard time looking down thru history and finding where argueably the 3 leading Bull of the Year candidates were ridden in the same short-go, Big Bucks, Copperhead Slinger, and Scene of the Crash.
The Worcester was one of the best ever.

I thought your blog entry was spot on. I was most excited for Cord McCoy, he is one of my favorites.
All in all, Worcester was a fantastic event, except for Wiley getting hurt.
