Coleman Crosses the $1 Million Mark
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (February 6, 2006) One of the most charismatic personalities in the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) is celebrating yet another career milestone. Ross Coleman (Redmond, Ore.), who captured the Southern Ford Dealers Challenge Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) event title on February 3, is the 10th athlete to cross the $1 million mark in PBR career earnings. Coleman has accumulated $1,031,897.84 in PBR career earnings to date.
Not only does Coleman now have bragging rights as the 10th highest ranked PBR bull rider in the history of the organization, he also owns the record for the greatest payout for a single ride in PBR history. Coleman rode Jerry Nelson’s bull Copenhagen Tuff-E-Nuff in the Mossy Oak Shoot Out for $100,000 during the 2001 Columbus, Ohio BFTS event. The Southern Ford Dealers Challenge championship represented Coleman’s first tour title of 2006, and he is currently ranked sixth in the world standings. He has achieved four top-five BFTS finishes in 2006 and has ridden 16 of the 24 bulls he’s attempted this season for a riding percentage of 66.67%.
Coleman finished the 2005 season ranked 10th in the world and has his sights set higher in 2006. Coleman turns 27 on March 8, 2006 and is an Oregon native. At 6-0 and 185 pounds, Coleman is larger in stature than most of his tour counterparts and is the quintessential all-around athlete having competed in every traditional rodeo event during his youth. Coleman earned the National High School Rodeo Association All-Around Cowboy title in 1997, however turned his attention to the PBR full-time after one year of competing for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas rodeo team.
Incidentally, Coleman’s closest bull riding comrade, 2005 PBR World Champion Justin McBride (Elk City, Okla.), is poised to cross the $3 million career earnings hurdle, while two-time PBR World Champion Adriano Moraes (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and 2004 PBR World Champion Mike Lee (Decatur, Texas) are both closing in on the $2 million mark.
