So, what do you suppose he should have said? "He'll pobably knock me on my a$$, so maybe I shouldn't try. . ."

alyssa
at reno for the short round, travis drew reindeer dippin again. two beeks before that he had drawn him and got bucked off and suffered a concussion. well at reno once he found out he had drawn him again, he went over to the announcers and said that he was going to ride the bull no matter what (basically in those words). well i think he last about six seconds i think and the ride looked alot like the ride from 2 weeks ago. well after the event, the first poster on this thread made a comment about what went on and we have been talking about it.
my views on it is that he needs to think that he is going to ride the bull... he cant sit there and go omg, i drew reindeer, i dont know if i can ride him and thoughts like that. i am not a bull rider but i do think that they need to go in there saying i am going to ride this bull. just my opionion on this topic

Well...A wise man once said that he knew he couldnt ride EVERY bull out there. His theory was "I know a bull is probably going to buck me off, but Im going to make him work to get it done".

I like that quote csb. Travis is cocky. He has a heck of a lot of confidence, as he should, he's good. My issue with him is it's just a little too over-the-top, for me. Hey, he wants to aim for being the Champion, not just getting to Nationals. That's a great goal and one that is realistic for him to aim for. But it's a lot different to say what you want versus guaranteeing it. He shouldn't say he'd expect to get tossed by Reindeer if he doesn't guarantee a ride. Cocksure attitudes like guaranteeing something typically lead to just the opposite. A famous quote from 1915 comes to mind when a ship builder said, "This ship is unsinkable." What happens? It goes down on its maiden voyage. I find Travis impressive to watch work and ride bulls. He's aggressive, which you have to be. But, I'll be honest, I like to see him land in the dirt before 8 seconds as much as I like to see him ride. Keep him a little more honest.

I liked what Matt Bohon had to say about the weeks following his win in Minneapolis. He knew he got big headed and knew that getting tossed around a bit was part of the sport too. It got him back to earth and he will hopefully start ridig better knowing that there are times when you are on fire and then there are times when you are not so hot.
