Mike White Injury Report
Mike White was injured during the Mossy Oak Shoot Out following the
second
round of competition at the Cabela?s Classic in Kansas City, Missouri
on
Saturday, March 11, 2006. Mike was injured when he bucked off the bull
Leroy landing headfirst onto the Kemper Arena floor. X-rays and
examinations at the KU Medical Center showed that Mike cracked his
first
cervical vertebra (C1) at the base of the skull and broke his
third/fourth
thoracic vertebra (the T3/T4 region which is located between the
shoulder
blades).
On March 13 Mike was fitted with a custom brace which will provide
stabilization in the neck and upper body region. He was also moved
from
ICU to a hospital room from which he is expected to be released on
March 15
or 16 to return home to DeKalb, Texas courtesy of the Big Tex Trailers
private plane. He will need to wear the brace for three to four
months.
KU medical doctors have told Mike that he may be able to begin light
conditioning, like riding a stationary bike, in six to eight weeks.
Mike has asked that his sincere thanks and appreciation be expressed to
the
PBR fans and family for all of their well wishes and concern. He would
also like to express his gratitude to Dr. Freeman for the attentiveness
and
care he has provided. Lastly, Mike wants to ensure his fans that he
will
return to bull riding competition and plans to qualify for the 2006 PBR
World Finals.
