So....I've been reading all the "praise" for Justin McBride and I don't get it...what is all the hype about? Now I know I may be opening a can of worms here and I just want to say this right here and now....I AM NOT TRYING TO BE PUBLIC ENEMY #1! I just really don't understand the "fascination" that a lot of people seem to have for him. To me personally I think that since he's won his buckle and a million bucks he's been sending off the "I'm a World Champion so bite me!" vibe. I don't have Justin McBride's autograph and I'm not really sure if I want it or not, but when someone spends a lot of money and drives 10 hours to get said persons autograph along with the signatures of the other rides and said person decides that he's to good to sign autographs, that really frosts my cookies! While we're on the subject of autographs and driving large amounts of time to see people....why don't we ever talk about the "little" guys (the guys that sign "everybody's" hats/shirts/etc. and kiss all the babies)? Ya know the Colby Yates', or the Austin Meiers' of the world? Why must we ALWAYS talk about the "usual suspects"? As you can probably tell I am thoroughly SICK of Justin McBride (I apologize to any McBride fans out there but these are my opinions of our World Champion and to try and change my mind would be preaching to the choir!) Now that I am thoroughly t-ed off I'm going to sign off before I do become PUBLIC ENEMY #1.
Jamie - potential public enemy #1
P.S. I think he should have taken the re-ride.
P.P.S. Some people here on the board have mentioned that now all the "good" guys are back! Well I hate to tell you this there are probably a lot of guys out there that are just as good or maybe even better than Justin McBride or Adriano or just about anybody on the tour right now!

I'd like to know just who this "probably a lot of guys" are? Cuz I've been around this game for a long time and the two you named are two of the very best I've ever seen. So if there are a lot of guys out there who are better than them, I want to know where they've been hiding at...

I was just saying when I wrote that particular part that Justin McBride is not the only person on the tour who is good. Travis Briscoe is good....Greg Potter is good (when he's on his game), Cory McFadden is good. There are a lot of people who are good...I was just trying to say that he's NOT the only one with talent.

WOAH!!! I don't know what Justin McBride you have or as it sounds have not, met but wow that is a little out there.
First off Justin is one of the best bull riders on the face of the planet (stats prove that) and last year proved to be the best rider out there (excluding the Matt Austin argument!). He has EARNED the gold buckle that he wears very proudly and deserves all of the credit that goes with it. Is Justin the most fan friendly rider out there? No he likes his privacy and usually avoids large gatherings of fans. I can't say I blame him. Have you ever watched him try to eat a meal in public? But guess what he is there to ride bulls and does so well. He also took time to spend with his family...surely you are not faulting him for that.
Secondly if you do talk to Justin he is a very easy going friendly and polite guy, but has a bit of a dry sense of humor. I talked to him for a while in Chicago and he was great even when some fans probably overstepped their boundaries a little bit he was still very gracious. Heck he even took his Championship ring off at one point to show me. I can not say I have ever seen him be rude to any fan that has approached him so I am not sure where you are getting a bite me vibe from.
Finally, I am not sure where you are seeing that we are talking about him all the time and are not talking about any of the other riders. I mean we have topics about all sorts of riders on here and if you want to talk about a specific rider then feel free to post something. I mean heck just look at some of the recent threads and you will discussions about all sorts of ET riders that most people have never heard of.

Personally I dont see what the big deal is either. He won a world championship which wasnt surprising. We knew he had the talent to win one, and it was just a matter of time before he did. He led the majority of the season and placed in the money at nearly every event. The only doubts about him winning the world championship were when Jody was riding everything (right before politics became a factor), and right after Marchi's hand popped out of his rope at 7.8 seconds and got a score. Everyone talks about how incredible the ride was in the short go at the finals, I really didnt see anything incredible about it. I think Justin would have tried just as hard if he was at the practice pen.
But based on the stats, everyone is making big hype about the second best bull rider out there.

Well stated WI8SecFan.
Just as background, I have never been a Justin McBride fan. I would typically root against him at any PBR event the past few years.
The thing is though, he's good. He has both the talent and the grit to ride well.
He gets more press than some of the other riders you've mentioned (aside from Cory McFadden) because he has been in the game longer and has excelled at it longer. Regarding a comparison to Cory, sorry to say but he's not really in the same class as Justin.
Now, from a non-fan of Justin I will admit to cheering for him on his 2005 Finals ride. While I may have wanted Guillerme to get it, I didn't want that to happen on a 7.8-7.9 second ride that was credited as an 8.0 second ride. I'm glad Justin gritted it out and won.
I will say that knowing he took 7 weeks off to spend with his wife and new baby has given me a new-found respect for the guy. I think that move was terrific and shows where his priorities are (and he can afford to do it, too).
I know at the Chicago event, I was in the stands cheering for him for the first time. My mom's comment, "It's about time!" ;-)

So know I feel like I am being attacked because I expressed MY OPINION of Justin McBride?

You don't have to agree with my opinion but it's my opinion and maybe if he had one less beer and said "hi" to a few more fans I might have a greater respect for him!
P.S. In Chicago I walked right past him in the hotel lobby on my way out to the car to get some munchies, but I took the time to stop and say "hi" but he did not offer me the same curtosey so I guess I won't be saying "Hi" to him anymore when I see him in the lobby.
P.P.S. I think that it was wise of him to take time off to heal up at the begining of the season and when the babie's due date got closer. I am not going to fault him for that. He get's good daddy points, and she is cute!
P.P.P.S. I don't recall saying he didn't earn the World Champion buckle. Please show were I said that just so I know.

First off no one attacked you for your opinion. You are free to express it but this is a message board and if you post an opinion that others do not agree with they are going to post their opinion. I would be upset if they didn't. They have as much right to post their opinion as you do. Just because they contradict you does not mean that they are attacking you. Just disagreeing with you.
Secondly the comment makes it sounds like he was never without a beer in his hand, was rude to anyone trying to talk to him and was stumbling around. That certainly was not the case.
Did you ever wonder if there was a possibility that since you were just passing in the lobby when you said hi he did not hear you or realize that you were talking to him? I know I have said hi to riders before and they have not said it back in those situations. I know it was not because they were being rude or did not want to talk to me because they are the same riders I have talked to in the past or in some cases, later the same evening.
Finally, I never said you said he had not earned his buckle. I was just pointing out that they do not give championship buckles away to support that he was the best in the PBR last year. A fact he is still very proud of and rightly so!

Well said WI8SecFan. I was in Chicago and have to agree with you. Justin is a very nice guy. I spoke to him briefly on Friday night and I shook his hand and congradulated him on winning the World Title. He was very friendly and seemed happy to talk to the fans. I don't think it is fair to judge Justin or any other rider for not signing an autograph. I think if you would have gone up to Justin and said "Excuse me Justin, may I have your autograph", he probably would have given you one. The first year I went to the finals, I got almost all the riders autographs, by asking politely and not one of them refused. I think there is a time and place to approach these guys (not while they are eating or talking with someone). I think the riders will be a lot more friendlier if they are not interuped. Everyone of the riders that I spoke to in Chicago were all friendly and a blast to be around from the vetern riders (Ross, Justin,Matt) to the new guys (Colby, Travis, Brian Canter). It's too bad that you had a bad experience Jamie, but like WI8SecFan stated, maybe he didn't know you were saying hi to him or he didn't hear you.
P.S. Hey WI8SecFan......I don't know if you remember, but I have not found the "Sumo Wrestler" of my dreams yet....I am still holding out for #12. I had a blast in Chicago...From one Wisconisn fan to another.
