Not sure if anyone heard about this yet but I found this link on Gaffney's site: starbulletin.com/2006/11/18/sports/story01.htmlApparently after a great ride on Chili the bull stepped on his leg and broke it. This really sucks to hear....I hope he'll recover soon and my prayers out to Chris.

I just read an update, and it said that Chris will undergo surgery in the next 24 hours, and he will be out for 3-6 months.

Oh no....that is so NOT what he needed right now. I was looking forward to him putting together another run for a World Title in '07 - who knows, he may still do that but this means he won't be back till maybe the Spring. And it seems like I can never see him live either (I'm going to the event in MSG in January, and why not?). I did get to see him perform live just once, that being at Chicago earlier this year, but other than that he's missed the other ones I attended.
But what's really important is that Shivers heal up as quickly as he can and re-emerge on the tour with a vengeance in '07. Get well soon, Chris!

Was an awful thing to watch. He was riding so much better than had been in recent weeks too. Hope he has a speedy recovery and looking forward to his return in 2007!

Hmm, for a while I thought I was the only one that watched it on TV for some reason. Maybe because this board's been dead lately.
And even if I didn't know of the injury before I watched it on TV, I could just TELL from the way Chris's leg bent in a direction that it shouldn't have gone that it was immediately broken.
And it wasn't just his leg that got broken - they said his ankle was also broken. Ouch!

It was scary to see what happened to Guihlerme the next day. It looked a little like what happened to Chris. Luckily, he's okay.
They said Chris has to have surgery again on Tuesday. Hope he makes a speedy recovery and returns better than ever in 2007!

He had surgery but their expecting a six month recovery period, which Chris is going to take. He probably will be back in may of 2007.
I am so sad that this happened...it breaks my heart, he started off this season so well. He won Maui, won the first round of Honolulu and now this. Hopefully he'll have a speedy recovery and be able to start the season earlier than expected.
Feel Better Chris!!!

Didn't see that he'd be out 6 months... still only hearing 3-6 months and I can't imagine him sitting out the full 6 months. Anywho, this is the update from CSA.
Chris Shivers -- Chris broke the tibia, fibula and ankle in his left leg during the first round of the Cheeseburger Island Style PBR Hawaii All Star Challenge in Honolulu, Hawaii. Chris underwent two surgeries in Hawaii where two screws were placed in his ankle and a rod was place along the Tibia. He was also treated for compartment syndrome. He was released from Queens Hospital in Honolulu on Thursday, November 23 and will be seen by Dr. Tandy Freeman in Dallas on November 28. He will be out of competition for three to six months.
***Compartment syndrome is EXTREMELY painful. It's a buildup of pressure in the muscle... muscle gets too big for the shealth. There are numerous things that can be done to remove pressure but if it's severe the best way is an incision into the muscle to relieve the pressure. (If anybody saw Bones 1-2 weeks ago... the one where "Gravedigger" got her and Hodgin's. This is what Hodgin's had and why Bones cut his leg open).

I hope his crushed leg doesn't end his career. Riders need healthy legs to get off the bulls safely ~ if there is such a thing as "safely." Poor Chris. Now he's out for 6 months just like Mike was.
