I was just curious if anyone has positives regarding Justin McBride being friendly at PBR events or otherwise. I know that many bull riders have been overly friendly at PBR hotels in the elevators or otherwise when I am at an event. They go out of their way to be nice and speak, even Justin McKee spoke to me in the elevator as has JW and his wife (and dog) and Gilbert Carillo, the list goes on.
I have never seen Justin McBride at a meet and greet nor have I seen him out in the open to approach at any event I have been to in OkC. He doesn't come around and give autographs to the kids after the events (I assume they pay fines for this)
I was told by a very trusted ABBI board member that they are required to speak to you, give an autograph or whatever at a PBR event and they will get in trouble if they don't.
I live nearby Justin McBride and have NEVER seen him except for mass w/ his wife. He lives near the river in the town I was raised in. I have never spoken to him. His first ranch was near my gpas farm North of Sayre, OK.
My impression is that he really doesn't care about the fans and I don't see him being friendly to them. My daughter when she was 4 made him a picuture of him riding Blueberry Wine to give him after the show (or at meet and greet or the hotel we were staying at) and we never saw him, her heart was broken.
I just notice he is never around to talk to. Does he deliberately avoid his fans?
I just have the impression he isn't friendly. Wondering what everyone elses' take was on the issue?
This might be interesting!

I've only "met" Justin once. It was in 2004 in Tampa. The event was over and everyone was going down for autograph signing. Justin was there signing, but he wasn't down in the arena with the rest of the riders. He started there, but ended up climing the fence and going and sitting in the stands saying "I'll be back." He never went back down into the arena, but regardless, fans found him in the stands anyway. That's when I got his autograph, or more appropriately, I sent my mother to get his autograph.....I think I was talking to one of the other riders, don't reemmber who.
When we went in 2005 we didn't see him at all. We didn't go in 2006, but we went this year, again to the Tampa event. Of course, Justin won Tampa this year. At the autograph session people were chanting "Justin, Justin, Justin" because they wanted him to come out and sign. He never showed.
My opinion? Probably not the most fan-friendly person.

he is a lot less friendly these last few years. at the finals this year, he was at the fan zone on staurday morning, but was sitting there signing his pictures and just stacking them up. never looked up or spoke to anyone. i had his cd and he signed it and just scooted it back at me. i agree he is one of less approachable riders. by the way anyone listen to the cd? what did you think??

This thread is very uncalled for. Surely you have something else to do in your life than run somebody down because you are bored. Get a life and quit picking Justin's apart!

i don't think this is picking someone apart. just the truth. and it could be said about some other guys as well. i am a collector of rodeo collector cards and i have gotten a lot of them autographed. they are not for sale, just my own pleasure. some of the guys appreciate them and some don't. i try not to be intrusive when i ask and sometimes i really get a cold shoulder from different guys. i just feel they might try to appreciate the fans because without us, they would not be making the big $$$$$.

Seriously, this is a message board. It's here for the sake of sharing opinions. Don't get on people every time they say something negative about the PBR or one of the riders. As for the topic, I've never met Justin McBride. From what I've seen on TV, he isn't the most fan-friendly rider around, but that's also his choice. I respect it either way, although I'll cheer for the riders who go out of their way to talk and interact with their fans.

Share all the negative opinions you want but focusing in on an individual (no matter who it is) and making it personal just isn't right. There is so much more that can be talked about.
Being fan-friendly is part of the sport but fans need to be rider-friendly also. I watched as Wiley Petersen (one of the most fan-friendly there is) try to get to his family after he won the world finals and continually be stopped for autographs and pictures. He tried to be polite and say that he would be right back only to have his request ignored. Now, being Wiley, he took the pictures and signed the autographs and then made his way to hug his wife and kids.
Point of the story, it's not hard to see why these guys end up not-so-fan-friendly when at times the fans aren't very respectful of the riders.

That's just part of being a professional athlete. Have you had the chance to watch any sports in your lifetime? I'm just wondering because it doesn't seem like it. Riders are professional athletes 100% of the time. Some fans only get to be near professional athletes once in their entire lifetime.
Nobody is calling Justin McBride a sorry S.O.B. They are just pointing out he hasn't been the most fan-friendly rider in their personal experiences.
Honestly, after I look at the topic and read all the posts made, it seems even sillier that you stepped in and threw the hissy fit you did.

Grow up! No hissy fit is being thrown. It's okay to point out the negatives but it's not okay to counteract those without it being classified as a fit. My last post had nothing to do with Justin. Just pointing out the other side of the coin. And just for the record, you'd be surprised at the sports I've watched and been around. I know that PBR bull riders are the most accessible to the fans and not all of them appreciate that they even have fans. That's why the ones who have been around the sport the longest were the ones who appreciated the fans the most and set the precident with them that they did. It's unfortunate that that all the bull riders still don't see it that a way. So, I have no problem with the discussion that this generation of bull riders aren't as fan-friendly as they should be, I just didn't think the discussion needed to be directed at one individual NO MATTER WHO IT IS!!

I've only met Justin once very briefly. He was gracious and asked about my KSDS pup and had that very proud Papa look when a couple of us fans commented on how cute Addison is. I don't think he's the friendliest guy on tour, but I wouldn't call him unfriendly. He's a bull rider first and foremost, and doesn't care to do the "PR" stuff as much as others. Ty Murray was very similar when he was riding. He preferred letting other riders do the fan-relations stuff.... I believe Ty still holds some kind of record for the most fines accrued for not staying to sign autographs in the arena.

No hissy fit is being thrown, yet your post starts out with "Grow up!." Wow, I'm seriously arguing with a teenager here. Your post isn't worthy of a half-ass response from me, so this is all it's getting. I'm done with this topic. If you have anything worthy to say, just PM it to me. I did get a good laugh or two from you though, heh.

Thank you Cody for saying everything that I've been wanting to say since starting to read this thread. This thread is very uncalled for. Surely you have something else to do in your life than run somebody down because you are bored. Get a life and quit picking Justin's apart! This is a message board. Look at the title, if you don't like it, move on!
I could keep quoting and replying, but I'm grown up and don't feel like continuing this childs play name calling.
As for the topic of the post-I have never met Justin, or seen him other than in Chicago in 2006. It was his first event back after his daughter was born. He was having a good time and wasn't going out of his way to greet fans, but wasn't ignoring them either...
Other riders that I have actually met: Obviously Ross Coleman, Tater Porter, Guilherme Marchi, Cory Melton, Ross Johnson, Wiley Petersen, and I'm sure there are others that I have missed. There are a number that we have seen around as well as run into from time to time...
I have never seen one rider who has been flat out rude to a fan. As somebody had mentioned on this board at one point, some of the riders view themselves as just people. They don't see themselves as having "fans". I take that piece of advice with me to every event I go to and I don't take it personal when a rider doesn't say hi...

He's pretty short winded and to the point. I dont think he is into the cameras and bright lights, he just wants to get on his bulls. Atleast he isnt faking enthusiasm. They cant all have Cord McCoy's personality.

I have listened to his CD. I like it but I'm pretty easily amused sometimes and Ashley can vouch for that fact. I like "God's in Oklahoma", "Don't Let Go" and "Tough".
"Other riders that I have actually met: Obviously Ross Coleman, Tater Porter, Guilherme Marchi, Cory Melton, Ross Johnson, Wiley Petersen, and I'm sure there are others that I have missed. There are a number that we have seen around as well as run into from time to time..." You forgot Gerardo Veneagas, and Chris Shivers, Brian Canter, Adriano Moraes, Matt Bohon, and we rode in the elevator in Chicago with Helton Barbosa.....You don't let me forget that one! Mike Lee....I don't let you forget that one!
Yes there are guys who are more fan friendly than others but like Cody said nobody is calling him an SOB either. I think it's fair that we question our "leaders" whoever they might be in whatever venture that they are "leading" in wether it's politics, religion, or sports.
P.S. If only they all could have Cord McCoy's personality!
