Man today's coverage in KS was less than stellar. There were lots of things that the producers are doing that I would like to see changed. Here is my list PBR: 1) Micro-size those on-screen data bars. Maybe even drop the top one all together. 2) Kill those scrolling ticker tapes at the top. I am trying to watch the rider and the bull in detail and there are so many graphics flying around. That is very distracting. Distracting from what I am tring to watch. Just put up the rider's and Bull's names and then simply pull it down! 3) Don't broadcast an interview or a re-run of a previous ride when a bullrider is in the chute and up for his ride. Ticks me off to miss a rider getting ready to ride and even his exit because they are showing an ex-rider from two years ago buck off. 4) Include more footage of the bulls after the rider is off. Let us see the clown and the Bullfighters doing their thing! 5) Provide more video coverage of the area behind the chutes. Less flashbacks. Don't create content. The event IS the content we want. 6) Please have the announcers cut the talk by 50% minimum. There does not need to be a full-time, non-stop running commentary. It is annoying. I won't get bored and change the channel I promise! There are plenty of sounds in the areana already. Amplify those sounds please. Cut the shallow banter. Save the speeches for the intermissions. Please stop talking and trying to speculate while we are trying to watch the rides. Please? Please? 7) I love rock music as much as anyone. However, there is a whole lot of Kick-Ass instumental country oriented music that is just as "In-Your-Face" as what is being played. How about some rippin' Telecaster solos? Redd Volkert, Johnny Hiland, Danny Gatton, Brent Mason, the Hellacasters etc...these guys have music that fit the western theme. How about a little hot country too? 8) Is it just me, or does the quality of the video seem lo-fi? I swear the close-up of the wrecks are real fuzzy. I think NASCAR and NFL etc have better cameras or cameramen or something. For example, when a Bullrider is injured and they run the Slo-Mo, it seams like you still can't see the details like you can in the other action sports. So please improve the videography and video processing. Dude-Use your Zoom Button OK, I'm done for now ;D Please chime in if you will. Thanks, Rich

Richie, I'm with you 100%, but at least OLN is broadcasting our sport. Unfortunately, rodeo and thier fans still have the image of backwoods hillbilly's with no money to spend, and rarely a sold out event (ever notice they film the empty seats). We do not have the following of baseball, football, or NASCAR, but hopefully some day will. Have you ever watched a pro hockey season game and compare it's brodcast to the Stanley Cup playoff's? All of a sudden the camera's come to life. I agree that some of the PBR announcers have a lot to be desired, and OLN could use some broadcasting lessons, but at least they are there for us until the sport of bull riding and rodeo get's the recoginition it deserves. cowboy4443

By the way my wife noticed leah is putting on the lbs anybody else notice? I know i criticized leah alot a long time ago but you know what i wouldn't trade her for anyone except maybe pam minnick.

cowboy4443 & cowboytodd25,
Good points! I actually do not think that the current front men (announcers) are bad at all. Itseems like someone is directing them to talk non-stop. They are afraid of dead air and must feel that the public needs to have some idle banter in order to get their minds around this sport.
Bullriding is a subculture no doubt. With the number of encores being aired, it would seem that the audience is there. Why not kick the quality of the braodcasts up a notch or two in order to retain the new viewers. Hopefully the fan base will grow and allow all the goodies to follw along with it.
My biggest gripes are the graphics clogging the screen, the useless chatter that oftentimes causes us to miss a ride.
We'll see what happens later today!
Rich

See I am a little different i love the scroll on the top of the screen. It lets you know what the riders have done especially if you have kids and happen to miss it like i do all the time with 4 of them. I guess i have become accustomed to it after watching espn and the bottom line like i said i actually like it. As far as having a higher quality the would cut into the profits and would not allow for such intriguing shows as season 1 of survivor. By the way isnt there a reality channel now put it there. Anyways those are just some quick takes but i agree the graphics need to be a little better just the overall quality.

I agree with almost everything you said, firecracker. I'm with cowboytodd, though, I like the bar at the top b/c sometimes they don't even show all of the rides and that lets you know how everyone did. I really like #s 3 & 4!

Rich, first off great post! That was really some deep stuff.
The only one I disagree on is #2. I think the scrolling thing at the top took the broadcasts to the next level. I really enjoy the 8 Second Addiction Fantasy league we have here, and our riders aren't always shown during the telecast. And between Holly and I, one of us usually catches a glimpse of the scores we are looking for.
I'm a lot like Todd on this, I am an ESPN-addict. So I have grown accustomed to seeing the ticker running on the screen throughout the broadcast, and I like it.
I'm not saying they have to run it the entire telecast, but I would like to see it at least two or three times all the way through. They also run the top rated bulls and top rides of the year on that scroller as well. I just like that..
Anyway, besides that, I agree with everything else for the most part.

The Biggest problem i have with them is the fact that they won't show a d**n live event rather the would rather show thr frickin Jack Daniels event from months ago. Heaven for bid we go two weeks in a row what a bunch of pricks. Thats al i have to say. I believe the reason they do do this stuff for is one reason. Bear with me while i gather my thought.$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.... Ok im back.
The most disturbing thing is the fact that they could blackout the event in the local market and show it to the rest of us.
Better yet go ppv on every event charge 10.00 for us at home to watch it live and that would be great.

LOVED your little commentary above, and agree with you on all points, especially points 1-4! I look forward to reading more of your posts! Thanks for the welcome and thanks for the comment you folks took the time to enter. I love this sport and like to talk about it and enjoy it when I hear from folks who are fans and bullriders too. All: I guess I can live with the ticker tape I guess, that is my smallest gripe. It seems to be popular. If I take the time to read it, at least me, I miss something else that is very interesting. Right now I am into the details of every move the bullrider and bull makes. I love the gear and the techniques, so all that graphic blockage gets to me especially that lower bar. Just an idea-How about no graphics when the event airs live(delayed) and put them up on the encore presentations? That would be cool to me. Again-this weekend-same thing. The camera man pokes his handy cam into the chute and we begin to see the bull and the bullrider lacing in. Then this giant colored bar covers 50% of the screen for way too long. Makes me want to spit. Anyways, I am not a cowboy. Big City Slicker here. However, I used to live on a ranch or two and have been a ranch hand before and worked cattle some. That was a long time ago. I am no doubt a big PBR fan now; having recently bought tickets for a challenger event in CA and also joined the fan clubs of both the PBR and the ABBI. Thanks again for the input. Rich

Rich 1.Yea I wanna Welcome you too (im slightly new as well..oh yea go rookies!! ) 2.I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU!!! Everytime that stupid thing-of-a-ma-jig pops up im on my feet yellin "MOVE!" at the TV. THANKYOU FOR BRINGING IT UP!!! THey need to minimize it or something! Better yet..how about make it a commercial instead of INTERRUPTING MY PBR! 3.on the last part...Well i used to live on a ranch too... I went to the Rodeo events and bull bashes in lufkin...heck my daddy is even a bull rider! BUT..I never saw the bft series until last year! On tv. I still havent been to event!(Not by choice) I had to move to a tiny city too(not by choice again)...So..you definitely wont have me doubting your love for the this sport! ;D 4. On the other points you made a have to say i agree with you. on the little ticker tape thing however, like i like that..but only when its slow. On the first night they aired the Kansas City event...it went REALLY FAST horizontally....i was almost motion sick and was really distracted. So if they just keep it slow...i dont mind...actually i prefer to know whats going on just in case i get confused.
