Okay just wanted to get your opinions on the use of chute timing light bars (I am not sure if they have a more technical name) to help limit the time in the chutes.
For those of you that are not familiar with the devices they are basically a bar of lights red, yellow and green. The light bar is placed in front of the rider between the chutes while the rider wraps his hand. The back judge starts the lights when the rider starts to wrap and it starts out green it then changes to yellow, then flashes yellow and finally turns red. The idea is that the rider should be able to wrap their rope and nod before the lights turn red provided the bull is not causing problems in the chutes. It is up to the back judge to make this determination.
They tested the devices in Tulsa and stated that they maybe used in the future to asses fines for riders taking too long wrapping their hands and positioning themselves in the chutes.
Do you think this is a good idea?

Wow! Guess they bought these dirt cheap from the company that supplied them for the political debates a year or so ago!! Anyhow, yeah, I'm in agreement to using these AS LONG AS they're set to allow REASONABLE time to prepare. This could go a long way to resolving the problem of soaking. Also, there are a few riders who seem to take an excessive amount of time in the chute and this could help them to "manage" their time a little better. I'll be interested to see if they use them at the next event(s). Thanks, Terri, for telling us about this. I sure don't recall seeing them on the telecast, but then I wasn't looking for them either!

I'd rather see them start off red, then yellow and when they turn Green the chute opens. Hope the rider is all set by then Rich

These could be a good and a bad thing. Yes something needs to be done about those guys take WWAAYY to much time in the box (ie Adam and Gilbert). Who knows.

If they open the gate (when the light turns red) before the rider is ready, might as well wheel out the stretcher. They could rename it PBW ... Professional Bull Wrecks. cowboy4443
