Cloud puts together two solid rides to win Xtreme Bulls in Omaha
OMAHA, Neb. (Sept. 29, 2005) – Bull rider Howdy Cloud of Kountze, Texas put together two solid rides to lead him to the average title at the Xtreme Bulls Division 2 Qualifying Event in Omaha, Neb., in front of a crowd of 6,801.
He finished atop the leaderboard with a 92-point ride aboard Classic Pro Rodeo’s Scar Face in the first round, which featured the top 40 PRCA bull riders. Cloud was one of two bull riders to last the required eight seconds in the final round, scoring another 92 points on Andrews Rodeo’s Little Weed to outdistance world standings leader Matt Austin who rode Classic Pro Rodeo’s Barracuda for 84.5 points. This was Cloud’s first time to win an Xtreme Bulls event. Cloud picked up a check totaling $6,041.
“I had the first bull earlier this year in Nacogdoches (Texas) and won the rodeo, so I knew I had a good one for my first one,” said Cloud. “My second one I had seen him a bunch and knew he really bucked. I knew he was probably going to go right and I got lucky and got by him tonight. The end of the year has been good to me. I’ve been drawing really good bulls and have been riding okay, so everything has been working out really well.”
Austin of Wills Point, Texas, who finished second in the average with 175 points on two head. He finished the first round in fourth place with a 90.5-point ride on Andrews Rodeo’s Fender Bender. All totaled, Austin added $3,908 to his 2005 earnings.
Both cowboys will be back in action Friday night for the Pace Picante ProRodeo Challenge. A total of 96 contestants will compete for a share of $350,000 in prize money. Competition will begin at 7 p.m. at the Qwest Center, followed by Montgomery Gentry in concert.
