4/13/2007 - Samsel’s Resistol Brings Big Bucks in Benefit
CARTHAGE, TX (April 12, 2007) – Dublin, Texas bull rider Dave Samsel took home top honors at the recent Beau Rivage Tuff Hedeman Mississippi Shootout in Biloxi, MS. Arena Brands, long time Corporate Partner of the CBR, awards each CBR Event Champion throughout the year with a new Resistol 20X Black Gold Hat.
On March 8, 2007 professional bull rider Lee Akin (Weatherford, OK) was severely injured during a PRCA event in Montgomery, Alabama when a bull stepped on his head. Since the accident Lee has had several surgeries and has remained hospitalized in Montgomery. He and his wife Mary welcomed their first child (daughter) Jada in 2006.
After winning the Biloxi CBR event Dave Samsel requested that his hat be donated to benefit Lee Akin, his family, and his recovery. In conjunction with Nate Morrison and www.thebreedersconnection.com the CBR was able to arrange Dave Samsel’s request. The hat was auctioned off on the web site, with all of the proceeds going directly to Lee.
On Thursday Livingston, Texas bull breeder Ted Keeling of All Star Ranch (www.allstarranch.com) was the highest bidder on the hat at a whopping $2,750.00! Said Ted, “It’s good to help a family member when they are in need, we are all praying for a full recovery for Lee and we felt the urge to let everyone know”.
Because of other commitments, CBR Board Member and Texas bull breeder Wes Bruce of 3B Bucking Bulls missed out on the bidding fun and the auction’s closing. However, Wes committed to matching the final bid by Ted Keeling with an additional $2,750.00 donation to the benefit!
That brought the total donation derived from the hat’s auction to $5,500.00 for the Lee Akin benefit.
The CBR salutes each of those involved from Dave Samsel’s original idea, to Nate Morrison who made the auction possible, and to both Ted Keeling and Wes Bruce for their unending generosity for an injured cowboy. The thoughts and prayers of the entire industry are with Lee and his family.
