So yeah we had to sit in chem the other day for like 2 hours and I was bored so I wrote a poem. Um...it's a little long to be a poem so sorry bout that but once I started I thought I was never gonna stop lol anyways....let me know what yall think.
I was headed down the road to a nearby practice pen.
There’s a rodeo comin up and I really need to win.
My bills are past due payments and I have nothing to eat.
My boots are old and holey and there’s tears in my truck seats.
My spurs have gotten rusty from over the past years.
My buckles are all put away and I’m all out of tears.
It’s been two years since the accident but it’s still hard to bring up.
I haven’t gotten over him. I didn’t wanna give him up.
This bull will be at the rodeo and I hope that he’s my draw.
He’s two thousand pounds of buckin thunder.
There’s nothing about him that’s small.
He’ll clip me if I ain’t careful and he blows out to the right.
I’ve gotta stay in the middle cause I intend to make my ride.
I made it to the pen and I rode five outta seven.
I got so many compliments I felt like I was in heaven.
It’s the day of the rodeo. I’m getting ready for the show.
My gear bag’s all packed up and it’s almost time to go.
I walked into our room. His vest was hangin on the door.
It broke my heart to see it so I sat down on the floor.
I was cryin and then I smiled when I remembered something he had said.
Keep your butt in the middle while that bull spins round and round.
Before you get on make sure to clear your head.
Don’t worry bout what the boys say. I know you’ll do just fine.
And when you’re winnin that big buckle I’ll make sure they know you’re mine.
I went into the bathroom and opened up the drawer.
I found the box he made me that said ‘Cowgirl to the Core’.
I opened it up and grabbed a shiny necklace.
It was his bull ridin cross so it was very special.
I put it on and held back the tears in my eyes.
I’m tryin to be happy cause I really want to cry.
I walk out the door and go out to the truck.
I double check my gear bag to make sure I’ve got all my stuff.
I pulled out of my driveway into the road.
I’m getting all excited. I’m ready for the show.
I make it to the arena. I’m so happy to be here.
My mind is goin crazy but I put back the doubt and fear.
The crowd is all excited. They wanna see a good show.
We make the grand entry. We’re all ready to go.
Kaleb’s best friend comes walkin up and then he gives me a big hug.
He said oh how I’ve missed you and even more I miss my bud.
Did you see the bull you drew? I said no but I wanna know.
He said I hope you’re prepared cause you’ll be ridin Smokin’ Joe.
My heart sank in my chest and I could feel the tears fall down.
This bull is the one that put Kaleb in the ground.
I wanted to ride him to get my revenge.
He was unridden and I hoped to make that end.
Zeb said I’m gonna get ready. See you in a little while.
I said ok I’ll see you then and tried to crack a smile.
I had to ride this bull to make Kaleb proud.
I promised him I’d do my best and that I wouldn’t let him down.
The bull ridin started. I was sittin on the chute.
I was about to get up when someone was tuggin on my boot.
Zeb said are you ready to make an 8 second ride.
I said yeah I’m gonna spur the hair right off his hide.
My bull came through the chute. They closed the slot behind.
I was so nervous but I had to get that off my mind.
I climbed up on his back. I could feel my heart in my throat.
I thought about my ride and how I wasn’t gonna choke.
Zeb pulled my rope tight as I said a little prayer.
I wrapped it around my hand and threw my free arm in the air.
I yelled RELEASE THE BEAST! As I nodded my head.
My mind was clear. I was gonna ride. I had not doubt or dread.
The chute gate pulled open. Smokin’ Joe blew to the right.
He tried to spin and throw me off but I was holdin on real tight.
The whistle finally blew but I couldn’t get off.
I tried to grab the end of my rope but my hand had gotten caught.
I tried hard not to panic. Zeb came and grabbed my hand.
He said please calm down. I know you’re really scared.
Kaleb’s gonna protect you. You’re gonna make it through.
He’s you’re guardian angel. He watches over you.
My hand came out. I fell to the ground.
Zeb jumped on me as the bull bucked on around.
We got out of the arena and went behind the chutes.
They helped me take my vest off and get out of my boots.
They checked me real quick to see that I was fine.
The announcer said that I had just scored an eighty-nine.
The people started cheerin. I had a smile on my face.
Zeb came up, hugged me, and said you’ve got first place.
The show finally ended as I sat in the locker room.
They called me to the arena so I put on some perfume.
They handed me a buckle and a huge cardboard check.
They said,” we’re proud of you girl you gave it your best.
You won the rodeo and you’ve got this money to take home.
You rode a good bull. You deserved to win the show”.
I said thank yall kindly as I looked up to the sky.
There’s someone I have to thank as I tried not to cry.
You see there’s only one reason why I aint wearin a frown.
I won this for my guardian angel. I know he’s lookin down.
He’s smilin and he’s happy and I am now, too.
I’m livin his dream and I just proved it to you.
I said I’d ride that bull and I kept up with that promise.
My guardian angels name is Kaleb Ryan Thomas.
I kissed his bull ridin cross as I got ready to go home.
Although he’s not with my now, I’m never alone.
