If you read Keith Cartwright's latest blog on the PBR website, you'll see that many people are not happy about the accolades (and, in some opinions, favors) that Justin McBride gets. I'm fairly new to the sport-this is only my second full season watching, so I've only ever been inundated with Justin coverage (I never thought this year would be as bad, or at times worse, than last year). From what I gather, there's always been one rider whose been followed more than the others (Chris Shivers and Adriano are two that I've heard about). At any rate, I'm getting tired of it and it's really put a damper on the season for me.
So, tell me:
1. Is it worse this year with Justin or has it always been this bad with whoever the rider of the season was?
2. How do you feel about the (imo) over the top coverage?
3. Do you think the judges are inflating Justin's scores and overlooking things like, for example, the occasional sloppy ride or the now famous grudge match controversy?
*btw, I'm not mad at Justin. I agree that he's one of the best in the world. It's the PBR that's frustrating me.

If anybody on here know's my previous posts, I am not a fan of McBride. I think the majority of my feeling is simply because he is over exposed. He can ride-there's nobody that can deny that, but give some of the other guys some time too. How about a 3 time world champ or the guy leading the points by a HUGE margin, or even the fact that we've had well over 100 90pt rides this year.
We won't get started on padding McBride's points, because that was already in another long thread...

As I've told you before, you definitely aren't alone in your thinking. Also like I told you, I have had to TiVo quite a few events this season due to work, so I just fast forward through half the interviews anyway. It doesn't affect me nearly as much because of this. Since I started watching the PBR 5 years ago or so, there has always been at least one rider that has garnered WAY too much attention each year. Chris Shivers hasn't had his best years during this time, and for that, they haven't over-interviewed him so-to-speak. The same can't be said for Adriano and Justin, however. I'm actually surprised it hasn't been worse with Adriano this season, since it's his last. He has had plenty of interviews over the past several years though.
It does put a damper on things because the die-hard PBR fans enjoy hearing from all the other riders as well. Every guy riding in the PBR is deserving of attention, and it's a shame we don't hear from everyone. Unfortunately, that's the nature of the best in most sports. I'm a huge golf fan, and we get to hear about Tiger Woods ALL the d**n time. While he is the best in the game, it still gets old.
In closing, I will say that it's funny to hear Justin McBride consistently tell the media he is sick of the attention, doing interviews, etc. It's definitely not his fault or any other rider, but it's just the way it goes I guess.

We won't get started on padding McBride's points, because that was already in another long thread...I didn't see that thread. I'll have to look for it. I guess what's bothering me, other than the favoritism, is that this isn't even Justin's year. I mean, yes, he came back strong, but still--it's Guilherme's year and aside from the one article that was written yesterday, I challenge any of us to find another article where Guilherme is discussed without Justin's name being brought into it. I wonder how many people didn't hear Craig's comment in passing about him breaking a record this past weekend? I mean, I understood the Justin glory last year (even though it still drove me crazy), but it's gotten to be too much. As for recording, I have a DISH, so I get the east and west coast feed. I do tape the first run just in case I need to watch it later, but I prefer to watch the events live because sometimes the commentators do say something I like hearing. But, I'll admit, watching live is becoming more difficult.

What a difference a week makes! Is it possible that they actually listened to the fans? What a refreshing production that was. We actually heard from LJ, JB, Harve, Ednei......and only a few Justin moments--although, I wasn't quite sure what to make of McKee's comment to Justin: "4th place? What did you do to warrant an interview?!" Was that a slight dig at us for complaining or was it a slight dig at themselves and Justin? Hrmm.....It didn't bother me, really, it just made me raise an eyebrow.
Anyway, I wonder if they'll keep it up next week?

All I have to say on excessive Justin McBride attention is Thank God I work weekends! Don't get me wrong I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to actually watch the events or at least TiVo them but our cable system just won't allow for it (it's weird digital cable through our telephone company).
I too am NOT a fan of McBride's...Never have been probably never will be. I'm not saying that he can't ride his bulls at all....All I'm saying is that right now Justin McBride is to bullriding what Katie Parry's song "I Kissed A Girl" is to radio....OVERPLAYED!
I love hearing from the other riders....Even Guilherme with his not so good English! We just hardly ever get to see or hear from them because Justin did this, or Justin did that!

So, I just found out that there is no longer a sponsor for the Grudge Matches, so they've been discontinued. This happened right after Justin's controversial "did he or did he not make the whistle?" and his "$5, 000, 000 mark!!!" (which, yes, he'd have made this year anyway, but winning against Marchi in a Grudge Match--The Best Against the Best--made it more exciting, right?).
Let the conspiracy theories begin.....
Oh, probably. *sigh*

Cry me a river Marchi fans. You all forget about how he was given the 2005 Finals on a plate. That gave him about $100,000 more than he should have won for the year. A blown call cost the San Diego Chargers a game earlier this year. Sh!t happens in all sports. The champs are the ones who don't make excuses and keep giving it their best.

What excuses has Marchi given? He also seems to be always giving it his best. And, since you're probably talking about the fans, then as fans, we're allowed to discuss the situation as we see it. Besides, the majority of us have stated that we think Justin is certainly one of the best in the world--no doubt about that.
Since I wasn't watching in 2005, I don't care what happened then.

I never said he's made any excuses. He is a champ whether he ever wears the buckle or not. You probably should care what happened in 2005, believe it or not, history usually has some relevance to the present. The short version is that Marchi won the finals on what appeared to clearly be a 7.8 second ride. Replay was used, though only sparingly at that time period (As one example, it was used to determine that Jody Newberry had in fact made the 8 on LYJ to win the 2003 finals). The call with Marchi in 2005 was part of the reason why replay became a part of all events.

I never said he's made any excuses. He is a champ whether he ever wears the buckle or not. Apparently I misunderstood your intentions with this remark. My apologies. Thank you for putting me in my place in regards to 2005. You're right--I should be interested. I've had a rotten week and your "Cry me a river" comment rubbed me the wrong way--especially since I try very hard to be as pleasant and respectful as possible in my more negative posts (and yes, I should consider the fact that you didn't call me out specifically). I still stand by my first comment that Justin gets too much coverage. Great rider, but overexposed.

At least McBride acknowledges that the camera's on him a bit too much lately as well.
Funny, though - 3 years ago before he won a world title, most of us seemed to be his biggest fans and supporters. Today....not so much, it seems. I guess winning two titles in three years and getting coverage everywhere will do that to a guy.
I still think TNN had the best coverage of riders (I'm old school) but, uh, that's just me. They were all about the rides, brief interviews w/riders, and not a whole lot else.
Anyway, I think I was off topic here, but oh well...

Not off topic at all. I appreciate the input. How long ago was it on TNN? I've only been watching since the beginning of 2007 (and some reruns at the end of 2006).

I expect his abscense in the next two events will spark a bit of conversation. Marchi is a truly nice man and I am glad they are not interviewing him so much now since he is already having a hard time with his riding. Hope that changes soon.
