This from the PBR injury report:
Guilherme Marchi -- Broke bone in his riding (right) hand suffered in the second round of the Tulsa BFTS event. He has been undergoing therapy in Brazil and will compete at the Pueblo BFTS event.
I think it was either 1999 or 2000 when Justin looked to be making a huge run for the world title when he broke his hand late in the season. It would be a little ironic if he wins this year because his top challenger suffered the same fate.

That is a bad injury for any bull rider, but it's even worse for Marchi in my opinion. He uses his pure strength more than a lot of the other riders, and this could definitely hurt his chances of winning the World Title.
He will probably be good to go by Finals time though, but it may give McBride all the time he needs to get a comfortable lead by that time.
Then again, Marchi could continue to dominate, even with a broken hand.

It was in 2001 that McBride suffered that broken hand - as far as I remember, he suffered it during a 92.5-point ride on Smokin' Joe in round 1 of Bullnanza OKC, then aggravated it on Dillinger in the Mossy Oak Shootout. He then sat out Reno as well. I don't think his chances were too much hurt (he did take the BLC points lead after Baltimore) but Adriano just kept on riding well.
Nowadays, a comfortable lead would have to be at least a few thousand points, and no one knows more about losing a big lead at the Finals than Adriano because Mike Lee caught him last year when Adriano had kind of an off-Finals. So if Marchi catches fire at the Finals and Justin can't, Marchi can be the champ.
