This is a very very difficult question with a lot of factors. The biggest one is who will do a full time run at the PRCA and who will do PBR full time and PRCA part time. That will have a dramatic impact. Right now I think Matt has to be the top pick as he has proven this year he has what it takes and I think that the two others I would have considered pickeing are going to be in that PBR full time PRCA part time group. Any of the ones you have listed have the skills to be a serious contender next year though.

Well...sorry all, but if BJ can stay healthy, im going to pick him. He has the talent, just not the best of luck. Wish he could have been at this years finals.

I voted for Dustin although I am also leanin towards B-Rich and Zeb. I would like to see Clayton Foltyn get it.

Until Matt Austin proves to me otherwise, he is the man to beat! I think he will win the world title pretty easily once again, especially since B-Rich may be a PBR mainstay this season. It's tough enough to stay close to Matt Austin when you ride a full season, much less a half season.

I'm not sure about that Kody. Unless there's a big change in the PBR schedule, there's going to be a lot of free time this summer for guys to try to earn some bucks in the bigger PRCA events. I wouldn't be surprised to see one or more PBR guys challenge for the top 15.
I'd agree with you that everyone will still be chasing Matt.

Yeah, I agree that some riders will be able to make the top-15 by going to the summer events. But I don't think anyone can afford to give Matt any kind of cushion because he isn't going into a slump anytime soon.
If anyone challenges him, I think it will have to be Dustin Elliot or someone else who doesn't ride the "18-week PBR run" this spring. Matt Austin will already be earning dollars at some of the Bullnanza events.

hmmm.. you all talk about Matt like he is invincable... well, this is bull riding. It is full of slumps, bad draws and injuries. I don't think Matt (or anyone for that matter) can go back to back seasons like he had last year, which was AMAZING.
I could be wrong but after watching bull riding for quite a while, I'd be surprised if he can do it.. since no one else has had amazing back to back years in bull riding.
I do agree with you Cody in the sense that it will be hard for a part-time PRCA bull rider (Richardson) to catch a good full-time season bull rider. Whether that guy is Matt is questionable in my opinion since there are still a lot of other great full time PRCA bull riders (Zeb, Dustin, Clayton, Austin, etc...).

Here will be the two big questions for the season. That could change my answer to the question:
1. Will Matt Austin's knee hold out for the season? He has been riding for about a year on a bad knee that even he admits at some point will need surgery. So far it has not effected his riding but a wrong fall on it could change the whole season. He may not be invincible but he is such a technically correct rider that I don't think that we will see him slump the way other riders have. A slump is not inevitable there have been riders that have had little to no slump when healthy (Ty Murray comes to mind!)
2. Will BJ Schumacher decide to focus on PBR or PRCA and will he stay healthy when he returns? Okay that is a lot of ifs but...It looked like BJ was gearing up to make a run at the PBR this year when he broke his collar bone. Sitting out 2-3 months he will lose a lot of ground in the PBR but should be coming back just as the PRCA season kicks into gear. If he decides to make the PRCA his primary focus and just makes a run at the PBR finals like he did last year (would have succeeded too if it were not for the injuries) we are going to see one heck of a battle for the championship.
There are a lot of guys that could kick it up big time this year that have not been mentioned. Greg Fuller just took the Texas Circuit finals and after just missing the NFR last year seems more focused and determined then ever.

I meant to find out if Matt is entered in the bronc riding at either Denver or Sand Hills. That will say a lot about how he feels and his plans for the all-around chase.
Also, he's been riding with his bad knee since June 2004. He hurt it all the college finals that year.

Yeah, I just listened to an interview that was done with Matt just after the NFR. He said that his knee was a little sore but with the time off to strengthen the muscles etc. he was hoping that it would not effect him this year as it did not last year. It looks great so far.
Make sure that you also check out the team roping event for his name. Rumor has it he is pretty handy with the rope as well and was looking to possibly fill his all around with team roping. Might be a lot easier on his knee and the rest of his body if it is at all a concern. Of course with the determination he has shown so far at everything he does he will probably enter all three if he can.

yeah I was pretty sure that the NFR commentators said that he was maybe going to do roping to chase that all around title.
