I don't especially like commenting unfavorably on events. But I feel that the announcer at the Lancaster event was really off-base. Hopefully someone at PBR will read this. Mr. Announcer was obviously is not a PBR fan, and he sure did not cover the event like he should have. Great deep boomin' voice though!
I got the sense that he felt responsible for ensuring that the crowd was entertained. So he kept playing "crowd games"; pitting one side of the grandstand against the other to see which side could cheer louder. I really didn't go to be entertained by the announcer.
Meantime, the riders are coming out of the chutes un-announced. Didn't know what the name of the bull was most of the time.
Ok-No biggie so far. Here is the cake topping:
Mike Lee rode twice. Nearly won it too, but stepped off in the short go about a 10th too early
Now if you had the current PBR Reigning World Bullriding Champion riding in an event, wouldn't it get the crowd going a bunch if they were told that Mike was World Champ and had won over a Million bucks last year?
The announcer said " Mike Lee who hails from Decater Texas".... (Note-I had binocs and saw the guy reading from a sheet). That was all the respect Mike got. That is very sad.
The event was good and there were a lot of rank bulls and good riders too. I was told the top prize was $10,000.00. Mr. Announcer never announced the winner of the event. Just said "Goodnight Folks".
I did notice that Mike Lee was helping out a lot of other riders and that he is very nimble on the chutes! One Bullrider was knocked unconcious for awhile: he took a hoof to the chin. Unlike the FBTS events, the dressing rooms were the corrals behind the chutes You could see the riders digging stuff out of their bags which were just sitting in the dirt. How different from the big leagues.....
This is the view of the arena from our seats, which were "Reserved Grandstand". Really Decent views from this vantage point.
PBR has to set some "Minimum Qualifications" for their event's announcers. It was Mike Lee riding for crying out loud!
