Although rumors of the meeting have been circulating for a while it was officially announced that the PBR and IPRA boards are currently talking about a possible partnership. It is an interesting move as it would bring the PBR into full rodeo events and open a wider market. Here is the link to the story on the IPRA site. www.iprarodeo.com/news/arch2005/PBR.htm

OK, so I read the linked article twice and I still don't quite understand what the benefits would be for the PBR. I can see potential benefits for IPRA but not the other way around. Am I missing something here? What does the PBR stand to gain from a partnership with them?? (Or is this a way to grow the IPRA and eventually put the PRCA outa business??)

I don't honestly think that they will ever put the PRCA out of business but I do think that the move is to compete and take some of the market share from the PRCA, there by weakening it. For the PBR the partnership would basically open up new markets for them and new tv sponsorship deals without having to build it from the ground up and set up all the relationships. It would also expand the event locations. The discussions in no way make it a done deal as the IPRA is an association so it is not only the board but the members that would have to agree to the deal. It would be fun to see if the PBR could make superstars out of team ropers !

So if what you say, Terri, is true, that the PBR, by partnering up with the IPRA, stands to take a market share away from the PRCA, with the financial/internal organizational problems the PRCA has experienced recently, this could be a death blow to the PRCA. Perhaps this is an intentional move by the PBR to do just that, or maybe it would be an unintentional by-product of the IPRA/PBR partnership. Either way, the PRCA loses. I would hate to see the oldest rodeo organization in the United States go belly up. I sure hope this partnership between the IPRA and the PBR doesn't happen because I think it would do irreperable harm to the PRCA. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out..... However, I do agree with you on this point: it WOULD be fun to see if they could make superstars outa team ropers. Tall task! Like the saying goes: There's two things that are far more fun to participate in than watch - sex and team roping.
