I know that we have members here from all over the country including the areas recently hit by hurricane Katrina. Many of you from the area may have evacuated or are currently without power, however we would like to hear from you to be sure that you are all okay. Also for the other board members if you hear from our members, or some of the rodeo families that live in the area please keep us updated as well. For those that live in the area or that have family in the area our thought and prayers are with you and please let us know if there is anything that the 8 Second Addiction group can do for you.

i sure am glad you posted that information. i have not been able to get on the website recently ( or as much for as long as usual) ,and had been considering askin about doin something. Ya beat me to the punch tho ! My lil city didnt get hit by the storm either...but we are one of the places the evacuees ran to... at least..some of the luckier ones that is. In fact, Ford Park,(thats in beaumont not in my city but like a neighbor) the place event holder for several of the challenger events is full of 'em...hundreds of evacuees are there...a minimum of 800 i believe. My drill team actually went and volunteered (not me tho...mom wouldnt lemme.. ) we are doing a lot at my school too for the victims. In fact, we even let evacuees go to our friday night football game last night...free of charge! ;D ( WE WON TOO! 28-0 go BRIDGE CITY CARDINALS! ;D MY boyfriend even got three sacks and several recoveries) The good news is that our governor is allowing students to go to our area schools for 30 days or at least till they get back on their feet. (not sure about the full policy of that) I talked to one evacuee who is now going to my school...her name is emily and she lived in the heart of New Orleans and said that her family had stayed till sunday untill they found out it was a catergory 5. then she booked it to my friends house who is her cousin. there are about twenty staying at her cousins house now! Then she said her house back in New Orleans is completely under water. I could never imagine losing everything i had in a disaster. to never know of my friends, family, and an entire life i knew...as a new unknown. So I seriously encourage everyone to plz try to make any donation if possible. it is greatly needed. What is needed even more than that is your prayers. PLEASE PRAY WITH ALL YOUR HEART! If you would..also plz pray for my daddy. HE's an electrician...and as you know...NEw Orleans and several surrounding areas are without power. We found out hes going to have to go work on a generator there and is leaving for Sorrento, LA at anytime, we dont know when or how long but we are 98% sure he is and itll probably be tomorrow if not today, and at least for a week. plz donate. PLZ PRAY! Thank you, MEgz

I think they are gonna let some of the people stay at our church. Tuesday when all this happened, a woman called into the local radio station complaining about her power being out. That is the rudest thing you could every do when your sittin on your butt watchin people die and having to live in the circumstances all those people are havin to live in right now and complainin about the electricity being out. People in this world are so selfish. All I've got to say is she better be happy she's still alive and has a roof over her head and if I ever see this woman there better be someone with me to keep me quiet cause I can't promise what I would say to her. Well, I better quit typin now lol I might end up sayin somethin I'll regret.

yea i cant believe some people selfish ignorance / or and arrogance! sorry but youd have to get someone else to keep you quiet...id seriously doubt the regret of saying what needs to be said. lol you know what amazes me the most. The fact that our country ( GOD BLESS AMWERICA! NO OFFENSE I LOVE AMERICA!) was able to get over to the tsunami victims which is on the other side of the world and aid them faster than these people in our country are being helped now. Maybe i shouldnt say our country in general. Its more like the leaders, the representatives, and those celebrities with money they willingly blow off for jeweled underwear and teeth. wassup with that? Right now these people need their money, their charity, the leadership, and somebody to represent some kind of order. when thousands of people are sitting in sewer and distruction in the hot sun for over weeks in an advanced country with advanced states and cities still surrounding still utter chaos....it makes you wonder how it is possible for their not to be the assistance their was in the tsunami disaster half a world away without advanced resources. idk maybe its just me who doesnt get it.

You know Meg- I was just thinkin that exact same thing. It breaks my heart to see all those people on tv and the little kids with no food and everything. I mean come on there's people shootin at the guys who are tryin to help them and stealin tv's and jumpin off buildings. It amazes me too how they can go over there and do everything for those people that the tsunami hit but when it hits at home people sit on their butts and complain when they know that if they were the one's this had happened to they would want help too. I intend on doin anything I can to help out these people. Like Kennedy said.."Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country."(isn't that how it goes lol I'm not that great with quotes) But anyways people need to get up off their butts and help. If they don't start doin somethin soon... someone might be receiving some letters from me. Yeah and forget about what I said earlier about regretting what I say because if I hurt anyone's feelings or make them mad...that's their problem not mine. I'm only 15 years old but right now I think I am acting more mature than some of the adults in the country. That's all I have for right now. God bless yall!

I agree! I don't understand at ALL what took so long to start helping these people!!! Our president said that what had been as of yesterday was unacceptable. I was relieved to see that he apparently must have made some heads roll and got things going yesterday - FINALLY. What I fail to understand is EVERYONE knew that Katrina was going to hit the U.S. somewhere, so WHY weren't troops and resources at the ready and waiting to head into the damaged areas once the storm passed?!? It disgusts and appalls me. I just don't understand this from one of the greatest nations on earth. And another thing that upsets me: Why are WE always the first to jump in and help other nations in trouble, but let something happen here in America, and how many countries have offered THEIR assistance?? I only know of one so far and that is Venezula. I heard others made offers of sympathy. That's all nice and well, but those people down there in the south need more than offers of sympathy!

I agree with everything you just said Dana. I could go on about this subject all night long. I think most people didn't think it would really be that bad. Well I need to go ride so I can get rid of some of this anger lol.

My uncle is in Taylor, Mississippi which is about 100 miles North off Boluxi (where Katrina landed). No water, no power (for another 6 to 8 weeks), and no phone. The stench from the damaged Chevron oil refineries and Lousiania Pacific paper mills about knock your head off. He quit smoking, quit drinking, and told his wife that he loves her, so there is light at the end of the tunnel afterall. Tonight I am surprising them with our generator and 40 cases of water. cowboy4443

Dana, Nat, gah yall are so right. oh i know why we didnt have people all ready and everything for this hurricane. (IMO) Just a couple of guesses: 1) where are our troops to help out our country...oh yea right...not home...no there over on the other side of the world. helping with another countries chaos. So there is a shortage of helpers here. which by rumor ive heard that we are getting close to having a draft. once again no offense i love our troops. our country, our president, and our people. BUT that doesnt mean i have to agree with them forever. We started out with good intentions to save a problemed nation. However, Bush was voted for to be OUR president. To take care of OUR country. Right now OUR country needs OUR president and OUR troops. I mean i sympathize for the other nations of the world. I wish they could have the same liberties as we have. I just think we should see if we could BORROW OUR PRESIDENT FROM THEM. 2)why didnt these people leave when they knew for so long? this was expected to happen for years now: The elders in the south are ignorant. god bless them....but a ton of them were thinkin "o ive been hear for blah blah years through blah blah this and that. this is my home and i aint leavin blah blah" which is total pride in oneself which i can understand a little, but the elders are the role models and most dont realize this, but its so selfish. The family does not want to leave family. They try to stick together and they stay too. Not to mention the young people who are nieve enough to still believe they are invincible to disaster and catastrophe. The stubborness of people as well believing this cannot happen to them. we always think it happens everywhere else. 3)what about the others? its not only through personal faults of each individuals tragedy. No, a lot of people COULD NOT get out. They could not afford it. They either didnt have money or a car or some way of transportation. Not to mention the roads were backed up for miles and hours. 4) could gas have been a big issue? Well i'd think so. The gas prices have reason to an unreasonable price recently. People are starting to have to work two jobs to pay for the gas to go to their jobs! (there was a blonde who sold her car for gas money!lol j/j ) Not to mention that its taken their money from food to gas so they get to the job to make money! so really if you didnt have gas you were screwed unless you walked which idk if you ever experienced the heat of the south but its no picnic to walk in and its very unprofessional to have to ask your boss for some D.O. for your B.O.! IDK maybe that was some of the problems/reasons/excuses. We cant keep wonderin "why then"...we now have to deal with "what now"....

Yes Meg..I agree that the elders in the south are ignorant and also the gas prices. They are thinkin about us not even goin to school this week because we are running out of diesel for the buses. The heat of the south is very HOT. In Sunday School today we were talkin about how everyone thinks that nothing's gonna happen to them. Everyone around here says oh well 9-11 happened all the way up there in New York and the hurrican happened in LA & MS nothin will happen to us. Um...hello we live in TN. We're on a fault and if they think that nothin will happen to them..they are wrong. Hello they need to go back and check out TN History. Reelfoot lake was formed by a huge earthquake. We will have a big earthquake at some point in time. Anything can happen at anytime. It was really stupid of the people not the evacuate New Orleans when they were told to. Hello!! You live in a city built under sea level!!! Use your brains. I was gonna send my money that I'm savin up for a saddle to the Red Cross but my mom said not to because they are gonna send people up here and they will stay at our church so I can just help them out then. It's only $111 but it could've helped out a little. I can't wait until people come so I can help them out. If we didn't have school I'd be down there right now helpin in anyway I could. Charlie that's so sweet of you to help your family out. That's it for right now.

everybody remember when i posted that my daddy may be sent to lousianna? well there was a change in plans...today. His job sent him to mississippi to work on the electricity. i was at drill team practice and didnt get to say bye! (but he told momma to tell me he loved me ;D ;D ha! i told my brother im the favorite...j/j ) anyway...they think its gonna be a week, but it could be longer or shorter. PLZ pray for god to watch over him and all the many people affected in this utter chaos. So they may get home safely or i guess for the many...find a new home to be safe. Thanks ~MEgz
