so, friday started out at 315 am, getting a call that a pump that sends milk to the bulk tank went out. so i had to go in and fix it. got it working, but we had to manually go over every 2 minutes and turn it on. it took forever to milk, i had to have two people in there. i had to feed calves too that morning, and while i was doing that, a bering in a tractor that i was using went out in a front wheel, so it is going to be out of use for like a week. we use that tractor to push up feed for our cows, and so now we have to do it by hand, which sucks because it has been like 110 degrees. the rest of the day went be ok until around 6pm. i got a call that a cow was calving and the calf was stuck. it was one of my favorite cows and also the oldest cow at the dairy @ 11yrs old. i get there, she was about dead because she had been trying to calve for so long and it was super hot. we had to tie her head and front legs to a pole and pull the calf out with a loader. the calf was dead and we had to try to save the cow. we had to roll her over and the get her started on iv's, but it was already too late and she died. then we had another cow calve, andshe had a nice healthy heifer and she is doing good. that was the only good part of the day. then i decided to check on this heifer that had been acting like she was trying to calve sence tuesday. when i just barely reach into her, i find a tail and its rump. not good. i guess that she had been trying to calve sence tuesday, and the calf was stuck and wedged up in there so good that we couldnt even push it back in to try to pull up back legs. no luck, when we tried doing that we could feel the flesh ripping because it was rotting away inside of her. my boss is out of town, so i had to call the vet. i told him what was going on and he said that there was no way that we were going to be able to get the calf out, and he said that he was on his way out to get it out. he finally get to the dairy around 11pm. he ends up having to cut the calf up inside of the cow so that we could get it out. it took about 2 hours to do. i finally got to go to bed around 2am. i was then back up at 4 am to feed calves and treat a bunch of sick cows. then today, we have had a cow that has been sick that i have been treating trying to keep alive, but the heat got to her today and killed her. needless to say, it has been a rough couple of days. i get to explain all of this to my professer who is getting back into town on tuesday. hope all of you have had a better couple of days than me.

well i should change the title to my bad weekend... today, i had another cow die. she has been sick with samonilla, and the heat finally got er today. i pumped her full of iv's to try to help her, but within an hour of her going down, she had died. also, one of the ice coolers for the bulk milk tank went out. so our milk is at about 50 degrees, which is not good. the one coolers is working over time to get the milk down. what else, oh, the farm market, where we sell product from our farm, the power went out over there, so all of the porduct is going to go bad unless they get the power back up. i guess we might be having a gigantic bbq if all of the meat thaws. anyway, i hope i get a few days off. that would be nice, but who knows, i think that i should just move back to the dairy so that i never have to leave

A few days off? Man I think that an all expenses paid vacation is in order. Sorry to hear that you had such a rough weekend. Hopefully all the bad stuff happened at one time and you have it out of the way so the rest of the week will go better. I will buy a lottery ticket this week and designate it as a "get Mary an all expensed paid vacation fund." Then we can start our business.

well, today, went pretty good. it was like 110 today again. a weekold calf got scours and died cause he got too hot. and then a heifer that had gotten stuck in the fence and messed up her neck good enough that she could walk, we knocked today. she was the only one schedualed to bite the dust this weekend. oh well, the list got to be very long. i finally got to talk to my professor, he was cool with what had gone on. he understood that the heat got the cows that had gotten sick cows. that was weight off my shoulders. the heifer that had the rotten calf in her, is doing a lot better. her milk is going up, and she is actually eat a good amount of food. yipee, i am happy. she is one expensive little cow, with her vet bill. anyway, until next time....... ps. terri, if you win the lotto, we are starting buck nekked ranch and i am working there

If you like that just wait until you hear the names we have for the bulls! Jamie is in charge of helping name them...Speaking of which WHERE IS JAMIE??? She seems to be MIA again. Oh dear time to call out the search team.
