I am soooooooo happy right now!!! Floating on the clouds!!!!! Cant believe this is happening!!!!
lmao, ok... wont leave you wondering anymore.
Theres this colt that I've been dyyying to buy since he hit the ground almost 18 months ago. He's registered AQHA, chestnut, blaze & socks. Gonna be a ropin machine!
But anywho: last night I talked to my parents seriously. (After the fact that my mom said something & pissed my dad off) I got all the details & agreed to work my butt off to keep up with the training & everything else that goes into it. Welll, I guess I can be pretty convincing at times, because when I got out of the shower this morning we talked some more & got the "ok". (Along with a long lecture about the work & responsibility, lol).
Final price is $750 with a $75 geld fee. Which he has to be gelded before we bring him home (we've got a gelding & mare already, not good lol). The people are going on vacation for a week, but when they get back he'll be gelded & then stay for another week to rest. Sooo, roughly 2 more weeks & he will be mine!! Well, as soon as I give her the first $200. The lady is being nice enough to let me make payments, whenever I can, as long as she gets paid the full amount.
Then when I get out of school this coming summer I can take him back down there & she'll help me with any problems I have and to get him started under saddle. Whoop Whoop!!!! I'm soooo happy!!!!!!
Oh, annnnd.... I was talking to friends that have their own custom haying business. I guess they see me as one of their own grandchildren, because they offered to sponsor me & take me to any rodeos that my parents arent able to once I start roping. .... wow... I was shocked & had NO idea what to say... speechless. I still kinda am, because thats a MAJOR commitment.
Anywhoo, this has been one of the BEST days in a lonnnng time!!!
Now you guys have to help me with names! (I'd kinda like it to be somethin western-ish, but anything will work).
Ttyl Bailey ;D

Good for you Bailey! Starting a colt is one of the most rewarding experiences! Just take your time and let him learn on HIS terms in HIS time, and you shouldn't have any problems. And if I can offer one thing: GROUND WORK GROUND WORK GROUND WORK!!! You can't do enough of that - ever. If you have access to any Clinton Anderson, John Lyons, Dennis Reis tapes, watch 'em. They are all very good and you can learn alot from them. Can't wait to see some pics! Good Luck!

Ive got acess to all those, along with Parelli (cant say I really like him much) my fav. is Clint Anderson. I've only really worked with him a couple times since he hit the ground, but already Ive gotten him to back, pick up his feet, trot along side me, hes not pushy-shovey like a lotta colts are either. Really fast learner!!! The only thing I'm worried about is me not really knowin what I'm doin & ruinin him. (its weird, I can tell people how to do stuff if they've got a problem, but if I try to go out & do it, eeek... ) I'm sure I'll get it done, its gonna be a learning experience for both. I'll post pictures as soon as I can, sadly we dont have a digital camera & mom takes forever to get film rolls developed lol. Bailey P.S. Oh... if you want & pay good money, I'll try for the raise, no guarentees though lol

Thats cool! My mare is kind of like that, but when the time came to have her trained I wasnt old in a position to do it, so someone else got that job. Since then though I have done a lot or workin with her & can pretty much do w/e I want on her
I had Bo & Cinch for names, but my parents dont like either one of those. And all the other ones I come up with are really common & I dont dont somethin like that, lol... It'll come in good time.

Bailey - I'm not a fan of Pat Parelli, either! Only because I've watched about a dozen of his shows here and there over time and I'll be darned if I can ever see him actually DO anything as far as training. Looks like too much playing to me. I'm big on Clinton Anderson, too. I watch his shows all the time. Every time I watch one of his shows, I learn something. And any of his training techniques that I've tried have always worked very well. That man knows horses! Sounds like you've got a good start on your baby. A lot of people think that just cause they're babies that they're too young to teach stuff to. I disagree - I think its the BEST time to teach 'em stuff. They learn right away to respect you because they don't yet know any better and aren't all cocky and full of themselves yet. Don't worry about doing something wrong and ruining him. You'll do fine! He'll let you know if you're doing something wrong. You can learn together. It 's a lot more fun training a baby than it is to train an older horse because when they're older, they know how to pull crap on you. Can't wait to see some pics and hear some progress reports. Have fun! - Dana

And any of his training techniques that I've tried have always worked very well. That man knows horses! Thats how I see Parelli too! My "friend/neighbor thinks he's the God of horse training. But Ive seen what the training does to the horses- makes them dead. All of her horses before she started with them were the kind that were layed back but you could still get up 'n go on 'em, now that shes passed Level 1, you have to practically beat 'em to get anything out of them. Ya know??? Its good that they're calm, but theres a place where I draw a line for calmness. She swears by him & goes to every clinic he has in Pagosa Springs. Its pathetic! Not only that, but he thinks you have to have all his "special" equiptment & stuff like that. A rope halter is a rope halter, and a "carrot stick" can be replaced by a lunge whip with the snapper cut off... lol. I cant stand people that think like that. Then they wonder why the horses are so pushy-shovey when they start them. The horse has to gain your trust & respect early, or they're just gonna be crazy when you work with them. Not only that, but unbelievably stubborn. Only way I can think of it is this: Parents dont wait until they're kids are grown to teach them manners & how to act, so why should we do that with the horses??? [/quote] I also have another name... Kass. Right now its a tie between that & Cinch lol. Soon as he gets home I'll get like.. 2 rolls of film probably. Bailey

Actually, I just got him home last night around 7:30. Decided to name him Jaxson, Jax for short. Training so far... he's lunging, drives, leads, and has had a blanket/saddle on him. Right now I'm working on picking up his feet & moving away from pressure. In 3 weeks I believe the lady I bought him from is coming up here to help me work on getting him to pony.
I'm really happy with everything that we've already accomplished. One thing though- I hope he grows out of his ugly stage!... I know most colts do, but ick, he's just... kinda ugly. lol.
I'll have another fun night tonight, getting up every 2 hours to go out in the freezing cold & checking on him. But, thats part of it. This morning, I tried to give him an apple- he didnt know what it was... I had to smoosh it for him, then he finally ate it like 30 minutes later.
Oh, and I also sold my other gelding. He's in Oklahoma now, with some guy on a ranch. He's been gone for... 2 weeks now I think.
I need to get homework done though. As soon as we get pictures developed (old fashioned, I know, but we dont have a digital camera that works), I'll post them!
