My mom called me at work just to tell me, too, but I had heard about it this morning. Are they saying something about fraud?? I'm sure we'll get the whole story in a few days. Hopefully it's not an ugly break.

Well, as a HUGE Kenny fan myself...I am sad to hear this. Yes, everyone expected the relationship to go down hill immediately, and I had my doubts at first, but then I started to notice how cute they are, well, were, together! I love Kenny and I just want him to be happy!!!!

Zellweger Clarifies "Fraud" Mention in Annulment Document
Actress Says Description Is "Not a Reflection of Kenny's Character"

Although Renee Zellweger cited "fraud" as the reason for seeking the annulment of her marriage to Kenny Chesney, the actress has issued a statement clarifying the notation appearing on legal documents filed Wednesday (Sept. 14) in Los Angeles.

Chesney's Nashville-based publicist, Holly Gleason, provided CMT with the statement released by Zellweger's publicists at BWR Public Relations, a company with offices in New York and Los Angeles.

"Contradictory to my intentions to maintain the integrity of our privacy by not commenting on the specifics of our decision, it seems necessary to clarify that the term 'fraud' as listed in the documentation is simply legal language and not a reflection of Kenny's character," Zellweger said. "I would personally be very grateful for your support in refraining from drawing derogatory, hurtful, sensationalized or untrue conclusions and greatly appreciate your understanding that we hope to experience this transition as privately as possible."

In a written statement, Chesney said, "This is an incredibly sad time. ... I just hope everyone can respect the privacy that I know Renee has already asked for."

The breakup has been major news on the Internet, newspapers and television. The official government Web site of the California Courts cites a short list of reasons to file for annulment, rather than divorce. "Annulments are very rare," according to information on the Web site. "If you ask to have your marriage or domestic partnership annulled, you will have to go to a hearing with a judge."

Chesney and Zellweger, who met in Los Angeles on Jan. 15 at charity concert, married May 9 on the island of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands. From the date of his marriage, Chesney performed almost 50 concerts on his Somewhere in the Sun tour that ended Aug. 28.

Chesney is scheduled to appear Sunday (Sept. 18) at the Farm Aid concert near Chicago.
