After attending the 1st weekend at Mandalay Bay here are some tips that might help your plans.
1) Don't get all wrapped up on pre-purchase. There was plently of excellent seats left at the box office. I don't believe they sell the best seats first.
2) If you pre-purchase they will have you pick them up at will call. Be sure to keep that account open and take the exact Visa card with you. I had cancelled my Visa at Chase and opened an account with Marriott Rewards. Needless to say I had to re-purchase my own tickets and now fighting with Chase to get a check back.
3) If you are planning to stay at Mandalay Bay, be persistant with Bonnie Wheatley at PBR to get you the group code. SBULL5 got me $191 a night and the normal rate for Saturday was $435.
4) For that kind if chump change don't expect anything.
There are no coffe pots, microwave, nor refrigerators in the room. Amanda Newberry was telling me they had to rent a refrigerator from Mandalay Bay to keep baby's formula cool.
5) Some of the best partying was in the parking lot, but you will never hear that when at Mandalay Bay.
6) If you workout, take another $27 per person, per day to get into their fitness room.
7) There is a McDonalds across the street for coffee and Texaco next to it for beers. Bud Lights are $7.50 at Mandalay.
8) If you are playing in the casino, pick your barmaid & tip her everything on the first round.
9) Try to stay in groups if on the street late at night. At about 2:00 AM on Saturday night three young thugs decided to follow Carol & I out of Bellagio. One jumped in the rotary door with us and stopped the door with his tennis shoe. I turned, looked him right in the eye, and said "don't even think about it". They made a quick left and we turned right. Rolled up my hat and put on a big grin.
10) Just do it....
