I went to the visitation Friday night at my school and stood in like for almost 2 hours. His family just basically had no more tears to cry. I hugged his younger brother and his dad and he said there's nothin better than havin freinds because the guys that usually hang out with Derek,the younger brother, didn't even come. War protestors showed up at the funeral Sat and held up signs such as God Hates Gay Soldiers, God Hates America, Thank God For 9-11, and Thank God For IEDs. If you read the article you would know that Dustin got killed by and IED(Imprivised Explosive Device) as they were driving down the road. My dad said they were scream F You and threw an American Flag on the ground and were about to burn it but the Martin FD stopped them. The worst thing is it was teenagers around my age thru college age doin it. I can understand people protestin about somethin but I'm havin a hard time understandin why people would show up at a funeral for a soldier who died for the cause of puttin his life on the line to go fight to keep all of us free and out of harms way. If they have a problem with America, THEY NEED TO GET THE HELL OUT OF OUR COUNTRY. It's a wonder no one has killed them yet. Luckily I was on my way to a rodeo so I didn't have to put up with them. The supposed to be a 'Baptist church' but I can't figure out how by the way they speak. You can check them out at www.godhatesfags.com.

I just ask that you keep the family in your thoughts and prayers because before Dustin had gotten killed, Derek was sworn into the AirForce and now he has no way of gettin out so he will be leavin soon. Dustin had shown up in May to Derek's graduation to surprise him. I got goosebumps when I saw him walk in the gym in the uniform.

Sorry this is so long, I just needed a place to vent because I don't think that soldiers get enough respect for what they do for us and our country.

God bless you, your friends, and all the soldiers serving their country. It's a good thing I wasn't driving the soldiers hearse. They would of needed a shovel and wagon to scrape up the protesters. It's time for folks that do not respect this country to head on down the trail.

Nat I am so sorry to hear about your friends. It is another sobering reminder of the price of freedom.

As far as the protesters go there are not words to describe their deplorable actions. They also appeared at several funerals in WI. Our state passed a law making funeral protests illegal...it is currently being challenged in the courts as unconstitutional and there was some concern that the law would not be passed due to the court cost the lawmakers knew would follow. As one said though it was just the right thing to do and it does not compare to the cost that the soldiers and their families paid. We also now have a group of supporters of the soldiers that attend the funerals to provide a safe escort and keep a barrier between any possible protesters and the grieving families. I hope that similar actions are taken in other states.

Regardless of their view of the war protesting at a funeral is deplorable.

LOL Charlie, a biker group called the Patriots rode down to keep everything under control. I'm right there with you. I told my dad he was really lucky I didn't go because someone would be hurt. We actually had a debate about it today in English. Someone said they basically find out when soldiers in small towns get killed and go to those towns to make the people mad in hopes that someone will hurt them so they can sue and make money. Someone also said that the protesters said on the internet that Dustin didn't die proud but that he died in shame. I couldn't talk in class cause we would've been there like til 5 o'clock from just me talkin about it I have so much to say lol.

By the way Charlie, is your friend still comin down here for college? I have the rodeo team calendar right here beside me on the wall and it says freshmen experience starts next week. There's gonna be a bunch of ppl in this little ole town lol.
