Terry Don West,Henryetta, OK, is by far one of the best known bull riders in the history of the sport. His record includes numerous championships including 1985 IPRA World Champion Bull Rider; 1991 IPRA World Champion Bull Rider;
1995 PRCA Reserve World Champion Bull Rider; 1996 PRCA - World Champion Bull Rider and 2003 PRCA World Champion Bull Rider. Terry Don has spent over a year letting his body rebuild itself but on February 27th Terry Don will ride again in the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA) sanctioned Federation West Championship Rodeo at the Mathewson Exhibition Center in Sedalia, MO
In a phone interview Terry Don said, "I am anxious to get back out with the people and just ride and have fun. When you love the sport as much as I do it is hard to quit.Here I am 43 and still lovin' it."
Terry Don will forever be linked to the "toughest bull" to ever buck in rodeo competition - Bodacious. He rode Bodacious successfully as a young bull. Bodacious was only ridden for 8 qualified rides, during his professional career which included 135 outs. Terry is joined by Clint Branger, Bubba Dunn, Tuff Hedeman, Jim Sharp, Legs Stevenson, Greg Slaughter the only Cowboys to cover him in professional competition. It was suggested that Bodacious had gotten stronger and trickier as he matured. In 1994, Terry Don and Bodacious gained national attention at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo when Bodacious used his signature head-snapping move during Terry Don's ride that resulted in life threatening injuries to him. The move Bodacious had developed was to drop in his front end in mid-buck to pull the rider down and forward, then throwing his head backward with great force to strike the cowboy in the face.
On his website Terry Don is quoted, "Did you know that the first time I rode Bodacious I earned $181.00 and the last time it was $10,000.00."
With all that has been said and written about Terry Don West it will be very exciting to see him in the chutes again at Sedalia!
