PBR website reports:
PUEBLO, Colo. (August 3, 2009) - Matt Bohon is in stable condition this morning at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.
According to a late-night email from Dr. Tandy Freeman, the 25-year-old bull rider from Cole Camp, Mo., was kept overnight for observation after suffering a concussion and facial fractures Sunday afternoon during the short go of the Bud Light Invitational.
In a text message sent this morning to PBR publicist Katharine Sherrer, Bohon’s mother Brenda said he will undergo surgery later today to have a plate and screws put in his lower jaw. She also said that he broke his upper jaw and fractured his right shoulder blade.
Bohon, who finished the event in 15th place, was the first rider out of the chute in the final round when his bull, Spit Fire, slung him over his left shoulder.
On the way down, Bohon was hit in the face by a horn and knocked unconscious. As a result he was hung up, and in the ensuing seconds took several more punishing blows from the bull’s hind legs before the bullfighters were able to clear Spit Fire from the arena.
At the time, Dr. Freeman indicated that Bohon was still unconscious when a local emergency crew transported him to the nearest medical center. About an hour later, Sean Willingham, a close friend and fellow rider, told several PBR staffers that Bohon was “conscious, but disoriented.”
As a precaution, Bohon underwent a CT Scan, which indicated a broken lower and upper jaw as well as the fractured shoulder blade.
There has been no indication as to when Bohon, whose parents, Bob and Brenda, are with him in San Antonio, will be released.
The Bohon family is grateful for the outpouring of concern for their son. However, the hospital staff is asking that fans not call the Medical Center and instead direct all messages to www.teampbr.com/mattbohon where well-wishes can be posted online.
Bohon, a six-year veteran of the Built Ford Tough Series, is currently ranked 26th in the world.

Great to hear he's in stable condition. That really was one of the scariest wrecks I've seen in a long time. If he comes back he'll almost certainly need the helmet, but it's just good news that it wasn't worse than it turned out.
Still, we must keep him (and his family) in our prayers and hope that he recovers soon.
