Not for the riders, but for the judges! In Portland they were a little bit kooky:
1. Travis Briscoe, round one winner on a bull that he shouldnt have placed better than third on.
2. Ross Coleman in the short go. Bull wasnt too hot, and Ross was flopping all over the place. Still scored high and was marked OVER his bull!
3. The Colby Yates Petting Zoo! I dont understand how the side judges missed this one. Maybe LensCrafters should sponsor the PBR judges? Glad they gave it to him though, they give it to everyone else.
4. Sean Willingham on the Werewolf. They said 89, I said 79 with the option of a reride. Wasnt too hot of a ride, thats for sure.
It was a good show and Im glad some new faces placed in the top five but WOW.

I can't say it any better than that, so I won't even try. Great job Cody B.

I'd agree with you on all but the last one. I though Werewolf threw every dirty trick in the book at Sean and he did a great job.

Funny, when I saw this post I thought maybe you were talking about how Willy Ropp sounded like he was on a mega dose of speed. Guess it was the adrenaline rush he was experiencing!
But, yeah - I agree with your thoughts on the judging for Portland - I spent a good deal of time shaking my head in wonderment on some of the decisions.

I agree with you, also, on everything but Sean's ride on Werewolf. Thought the bull did very well.
Isn't Willy Ropp the Amish kid? Can't imagine him on anything.

I was kidding, Karen, about Willy being on speed. I apologize if I offended anyone with the insinuation. I was just referring to how fast Willy talked in the interview - I could hardly keep up with what he was saying, he was talking so fast! However, a few years back, in the county next to ours, they busted a huge cocaine ring being run by some of the Amish youngsters in conjunction with the Pagan motorcycle group. Whodathunk?!

Just for the record, I was very happy to see Sean Willingham win the event. I didn't want to take anything away from him. I am a big fan of his, and it's great to see him in the top-10 in the world standings. I just didn't think the score was worth 89 points. I would have given it something in the low 80s. The bull was completely stopped for at least a second or two of the ride. That has to count for something......or lack thereof in this situation.

Man I wish I knew as much about it as you do Cody. I can tell when a rider's gonna have to option of a reride. If you thought those judges were bad, you should've come with me friday night to Bull Blowout in Murray, KY. Bulls sucked, only about 10 of 45 riders covered their bulls(and that wasn't because the bulls were rank), and the mutton busters and ehxibition riders were showin up the big guys. That was one of them nights that I'm more interested in what is happenin behind the chutes more than what was goin on when the gateman opened the gate. Yall know me and yall should know that doesn't happen much hehe.

I dont know anything, Im just a keen observer.
I would have offered Sean a reride because Werewolf was pretty slow and lacked kicked for a good portion of the ride. He blew up a couple of times, and the rest of the time he was kicking at his belly. The only time Ive seen Werewolf buck less than that was at the 2004 NFR, and they were 58 or 59 on him there.
