Okay, I am sure that Cody & Holly both have been wondering why it has taken me so long to bring this topic up and today I decided, "let's talk about it".
Being a Registered Dental Hygienist in OK and all I have suffered through Microbiology class to see the germy environment that we live in. I know bacteria is good for us as well as some can be harmful, but I would LOVE to see what bacteria is growing in some of those riders vest that they put their dirty mouthpieces in!
I for one think it is disgusting that they strap on to a dirty bull, make the ride and then take their mouthpieces off w/ the dirty hand they had wrapped in the rope. Perhaps they use the other, but either hand in my opinion would have germs, I'm sure the chute they hold onto isn't much cleaner.
Oh well, that's the sport, but I think about that all the time, guess I'm a germ freak!
If the PBR ever needs someone to clean those mouthpieces I'm their gal! I could disinfect those pockets.
Hopefully some of you that read this will be riders and you can tell me, hopefully that it isn't that dirty.
I'm sure no one will die from it, but it is kinda gross.
Just a laugh, something I think about.

Yeah I think about it, but I put mine in my vest too. It's just easier that way. I do clean it once in a while though, so it's never really, really dirty. I guess that's one thing about cowboys, they don't worry about germs much. lol. Good thing to talk about though. God Bless

My husband is a farmer/rancher, I have seen all the gross stuff associated w/ his profession and it is hard being from the health industry and things being disinfected & sterilized, my husband is NOT clean, can eat something that has been in the fridge forever, I am convinced he has eaten it for so long he is immune to the germs!
My brother in law is a vet and he is the grossest person I know! He can sew up a prolapsed cow, barely rinse his hand and eat a cracker, that is gross!
I saw Adriano buck off tonight and his hands hit the dirt (where in all likelihood there could've been poop!) and then take his mouthpiece out and shake it, maybe to shake off the germs? (I know it was saliva) Hey that is a good thing, Saliva has antibacterial enzymes in it, so maybe it's okay.
You bull riders on here be sure and scrub & disinfect those mouthpieces and clean out those pockets.
Sounds like I am not the only one who has thought of this, thanks for sharing. ;D

LISTERINE!
That'l kill those germs! If you can't stand straight Listerine use 1/2 of it and 1/2 water.
DO NOT PUT BLEACH on your mouthpieces or it will ruin the plastic it is made out of.
Keep those puppies clean! I love to watch bull riding so even though I know they are infesting themselves w/ bull/crap germs it's okay, I just love watching them!

Do you disinfect those Chicken McNuggets before inserting them in your mouth too?

Well I had a few riders that have had a few rough events comment that if they don't stop eating the dirt every ride it really does not matter if their mouth gaurds have some dirt on it!

Yeah, there's a lot worse stuff that has been in my mouth than that. Horse stuff, and other stuff. lol. Try horse (poop) flying at you right in your mouth, fixing cuts that are really bleeding and you have to stop them. (no not blood in my mouth, yet) All fun stuff. lol. God Bless
