I was very suprised to learn that the Myron Duarte Maui Challenge in November is going to be a PBR event. Maybe it is just me that is suprised but this seems like a very big blow to the PRCA bullriders.

That is surprising. Hmmm - maybe another PRCA guy is on his way over to the PBR.
On another note: It'll be interesting to see what bulls/contractors they'll have there. I'm quite sure the islands have some stock, but with it being PBR-sponsored, I'd be curious to see if any of the 'regular' contractors will haul their bulls there. I can imagine it'd be pretty costly to do so. Taking bucking bulls to a whole new level - flying them across the friendly skies! (I'm grinning thinkin' about that one!) Shipping by boat would take too long. I'll be interested to see how this works out.

yea i was also thinking about the stock that is going to be there...about if it would just be island bulls, or if contractos will haul any over..
it would be a pain in hte butt cause they would probly have to get health certificates on all the bulls and on top that the cost of having to ship them. if they have to pay outta thier pocket, it wouldnt be a wide financial choice on their part cause they would probly lose a ton of money...
just my 2 cents

According to newspaper articles on the event they expect to ship the bulls by boat as well as using some native bulls. The estimated coast of production...$850,000-$1 Million and they are seeking additional corporate sponsors to try to defra some of the cost. There are two events in Hawaii that the bulls will be used for and the riders will be expected to make appearances and charity events and spend a minimum of 5 days on the island.

Yeah Maui is a small island... We drove all around it in a few hours and I didn't see too many bulls... Only some free range cows on the way up the volcano. I would think they would have to haul in quite a few BFTS quality bulls for the event. Wow, Terri that is an impressive amount... Should be one heck of an event. I will def. have to look into going to that if they do it again next year. Maui is just gorgeous!!

Is it gonna be a CT event though, or will it be BFTS? I was thinking CT but not sure. And yeah, I was also thinking about what bulls would be there.
Off topic on Maui for a second but still on the topic on hauling, I think someone said on TV that a lot of BFTS bulls would cross the border for the Mexican event (what will the venue be, BTW?), but is that all or will there be some native Mexican bulls? And I wonder if the bull Lightning will cross the border to make his homeland return? Just a thought....
And as for Myron, I think he was a regular (or semi-regular) on the BFTS (back then the BLC) in 2002 but didn't earn enough money to make Vegas.

I live on the Big Island and am going to the Maui event even if I have to swim the 40 miles between islands! Does anyone know if the tickets have gone on sale yet? I called the PBR last week and she said to call every week because they haven't decided if the event will be at the war memorial or somewhere else so the tickets are not for sale yet. Are there any PBR fans on this board that live in Hawaii? Also, how long has this board been here?
