Last Frontier PBR Challenge Slated for September 2006
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 29, 2006) - The Professional Bull Riders (PBR) make history when they invade Alaska in September 2006 for The Last Frontier PBR Challenge. PBR management has confirmed with MTM Western Events that a double shot of PBR action will hit Alaska when the Carlson Center in Fairbanks hosts on September 1-3 and Sullivan Arena in Anchorage welcomes the toughest sport on dirt on September 8-10. The events comprise what promoters have termed The Last Frontier PBR Challenge and are PBR Enterprise Rent-A-Car sanctioned events. Each event will feature an impressive $50,000 in added prize money.
The decision to produce PBR events in Alaska came about in answer to a strong public demand from the huge PBR following there. As Tim Holcomb of MTM Western Events explained, “There’s never been a professional rodeo or bull riding event held in Alaska’s history. We are pioneering a concept here. Thanks to the PBR’s television exposure and regular programming on OLN, there are a large number of PBR fans in Alaska.”
July 26 is the targeted date for tickets to go on sale for both the Fairbanks and Anchorage events. Tickets will tentatively be available through Ticketmaster outlets or via the Carlson Center and Sullivan Arena box offices. Additional details will be released as they become available and posted at www.pbrnow.com. Each venue will post ticket information once confirmed at www.carlson-center.com/ and www.sullivanarena.com/. Tentative performance times in Fairbanks will be 7:30 p.m. nightly, while Anchorage action gets underway at 7:30 p.m. nightly, with the exception of a Sunday matinee on September 10.
While Alaska is not without major attractions such as the renowned Iditarod and the Great Alaskan Shoot Out, Holcomb explained that the PBR events will deliver a never before seen brand of entertainment to residents, “People are really embracing the thought of a professional bull riding event with the level of prize money that will attract top competitors. The bull riders that we’ve talked to are excited too. Bull riding, hunting and fishing all go hand in hand for many people, and what better opportunity than to visit Alaska and do all of those things?”
MTM Western Events consists of the team of Holcomb, Mark Winand, PBR stock contractor Thomas Taylor, and multiple PBR World Finals qualifier Mark Ward. Ward and Taylor will be responsible for coordinating the transportation of bucking bulls to the remote destination via barge. The bulls will float up the coast by barge accompanied by experienced handlers and will then make their way via truck as they would to any other PBR event.
The Last Frontier PBR Challenge events guarantee cutting edge excitement, as well as the world's greatest bull riders, and of course the rankest bulls in the industry. Each event promises all the explosive excitement and the adrenaline charged atmosphere typical of any PBR competition.
