Here ya go, Cody - you've been wondering when he's coming back. Now you and Holly just might HAVE to go to Tulsa for sure!
2004 PBR World Champion Mike Lee is Back in Action!
2004 PBR World Champion Mike Lee returns to competition in Cheyenne, WY on July 25-26
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 8, 2005) - Mike Lee is back! 2004 Professional Bull Riders (PBR) World Champion Mike Lee will make his highly anticipated return to competition in Cheyenne, Wyo. on July 25-26 when the Cheyenne Frontier Days PBR U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company Challenger Tour hits town. From Cheyenne Lee will embark on his first trip to a Built Ford Tough Series presented by Wrangler (BFTS) event which follows a lengthy injury forced hiatus that began back in February, 2005. Lee has been out of commission for six months following surgery which was performed in early February in order to repair a dislocated left (riding arm) shoulder. The Tulsa Express PBR Classic presented by Osage Million Dollar Elm Casino represents Lee's first BFTS event since Cincinnati, Ohio on January 14-15.
Lee is no stranger to career setbacks. The 2004 world champion was also sidelined from competition on May 29, 2003 at which time he underwent emergency surgery to mend a blood clot that was caused when his skull was fractured during a bull riding event. Injuries have not deterred the man who wears the number one back number in the PBR from accumulating $1,682,923 in career earnings, or from making history as the first man to win both the million dollar PBR Built Ford Tough World Championship and the prestigious PBR World Finals event title simultaneously; a feat Lee accomplished in 2004.
Of his absence from the tour Lee states, "This is the longest I have ever been out and it feels like forever since I've been on a bull, but Tandy (Dr. Tandy Freeman, Director of the PBR Sports Medicine Team) said 'I guess I'll see you in Tulsa,' so I've got the green light. I am very excited to be back. I have been rehabbing about three days a week and I am probably in better shape right now than I was last season since I've been working out quite a lot."
In April of 2004 Lee signed on to represent Team Army and has been diligently making appearances on behalf of his sponsors, U.S. Army, Wrangler, and Custom Fab Trailers, at events across the country while not actively competing. Additionally, his focus during the downtime has turned to passing down his championship techniques at bull riding schools. "I'm on my way to the fifth bull riding school that I have put on since I've been off and although they are a lot of work, I feel like they impact the lives of the kids that attend them which makes it's worth the effort."
Lee will be making a bid to work his way back among the top ranked bull riders in the PBR in an effort to qualify for the Built Ford Tough World Finals, which takes place October 28-30 and November 3-6.
