Did I hear right last night? After Chris Shivers' wreck, the announcers were talking about how a wreck like that sometimes takes it out of a rider, that some don't have the heart to come back after that, and one of them mentioned "like Zack Brown". I sure hope I heard wrong. Did anyone else happen to catch that little peice of the conversation? (Zack was curiously absent from this weekend's lineup, and I don't recall him getting injured in the last event.)

Yes Zack was re injured in Grand Rapids. He injured his stomach muscles there and has decided to sit out...there is a possibility that he will do like some of the other riders and sit out until the new season starts and return with his injury exemption since the chances of him making the finals at this point are slim. It was great to see him back riding and hanging out in Grand Rapids and I can not wait to see him back full time.

I would also like to add that Terri, Judy and I talked to him in GR after his recent injury. He was in good spirits, just tired. He said that he was happy to be back so I find it hard to believe that he has quit. He also said he was healed and feeling good after his internal injuries on Friday night.
I would think what Terri said it more likely. With this new injury he might just be sitting out until the new season since making the finals is unlikely right now.

Well, since I had Sunday's rounds on tape, I sat down and watched Chris' wreck again last night and couldn't find where I thought they had said that about Zack. I'm going to try to watch the entire thing tonight and see if I can't find what I thought I heard. I had to have gotten it from somewhere in the telecast - I don't THINK I'm losing my mind..........

I don't think you are losing your mind, unless I am too, because I heard the same thing. I was suprised to hear it too, but maybe they (meaning Brett or whoever said) it made a mistake and didn't mean it that quit for good. I don't know, but yeah I heard what you heard too!

Justin McKee had said it earlier in the telecast. I noticed that Zack wasnt in the draw after round 1, so I figured his injuries were bothering him.

Ok, I just looked at the PBR site and saw this
2004 PBR Rookie of the Year Retires
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (October 4, 2005) -
2004 Rookie of the Year Zack Brown (Chino Hills, Calif.), who originally hails from North Shore, Hawaii, burst onto the PBR last season capturing back to back Built Ford Tough Series event titles in September on his way to qualifying for his first Built Ford Tough World Finals. Brown finished the 2004 season ranked number six in the BFTS standings and has career earnings in the PBR to date totaling $370,771.
Brown’s 2005 season has been injury plagued. Brown sustained a concussion with brief loss of consciousness during the PBR NILE Invitational in Billings, Mont., April 9-10 when he clashed with Corey & Horst Rodeo Company’s bull Grave Digger. Additionally, he suffered a small intestine perforation when he was stepped on. Brown underwent emergency surgery by Dr. Terry Housinger at Billings Deaconess Hospital on Sunday, April 10 and was originally expected to be out for approximately two months. Brown returned to action in Grand Rapids, Mich. in an attempt to qualify for the 2005 World Finals, however following the event he announced his immediate retirement from the arena. Brown is currently ranked number 63 in the World Finals Qualifier Standings with $20,401 in season earnings and 33rd in the BFTS point standings.
“It’s been a tough decision,” said Brown on September 28. “I needed to focus on bull riding and after last weekend and after getting hurt so much I quit craving it as much and if I’m going to ride bulls I need to be focused on it.” As for his immediate plans Brown stated that he is unsure of exactly what the future will bring, but in the meantime he stays busy shoeing horses with his brother and is in the process of selling a home.
Of his favorite aspects of life on the PBR tour Brown said, “The best memories I have from this experience is probably everyone that I’ve met and the travel around the country and just the atmosphere and the friends. My career highlight would be the ride during the short go of the 2004 PBR World Finals on Night Life. That ride stands out or even just the whole week of the PBR finals.”
In 1999, Zack Brown moved from Hawaii back to California and spent time riding bulls in a practice pen. “I learned the mechanics at a Gary Lefew bull riding school and improved my technique by listening to other riders,” says Brown. When asked about the key to his hot streak in 2004 Brown replied, “I’m not doing anything exceptional. I’m just the guy who’s hanging on for 8 seconds.”

Nooooo!! That is so odd. Like Kelly said we talked to him what would have been just minuets after he made the announcement and he said it was good to be back. I am hoping that after some time off he will get bit by that bug again...If not though I wish him all the best. His departure is a loss to fans everywhere.

I can't believe it! Maybe he just got scared of the bulls. He always did so good and fun to watch. I hope he changes his mind.

Wow...It didnt sound like it when Justin said he was quitting. Sounded like he meant he quit for that event.
Zacks a really smart guy. If you arent loving it, your just going to get hurt. I'll definately miss him, he had the talent to be a world champion.

I think Zack will walk away from the arena for a few years get totally healed and then get the bug to ride bulls again. I have seen a great number of cowboys and cowgirls do this.
