WOW! I was surprised, well taken off guard, to hear that Owen will be retiring after Finals. I guess he made the decision early in the week. I am just glad we will still see him around since he has gotten into contracting.
Anyway, I hope he has a great finals (and Troy Dunn as well) so they can go out in style!!!!! Good Luck guys ans we'll miss you!

I was in complete shock also. But not all that suprized either, because of his on and off season this year.

Holly, it was weird they just randomly announced it during the broadcast last night before he rode. I was like what? did I just hear that? I would imagine they are going to put out a press release on the website shortly.

I'm sure that Owen is not wanting a big deal made of it. He is one of the more private bull riders and doesn't like a big deal made out of anything. He definitely was unstoppable in his prime and will be missed.

Agreed. He could ride the rankest of them as well as anyone ever. I'm sure he'll make a name for himself as a stock contractor as well.

I wasn't surprised at all. I hate that he had an off season, would've been nice to go out on a good note like Gaffney did. I figured it wouldn't be long until his retirement.
I too wish Troy would ride better in the finals. I heard Ty say in his telecast that when your heart just isn't in it you should quit at that time/moment. (something like that not a direct quote)
It does make you wonder if they both should've hung it up, but then again you never know they may have both dominated the finals. They could still ride well and I hope that do.

i thought that thumb's up was great. it was the most emotion that owen has shown ever. he is soo calm and cool about his riding. even when he was riding every bull, he was just calm about it. he has always been one of my favorites.

Anyhow - both Owen and Troy have been a couple of my favorites for years. Knowing that they're getting a little long in the tooth (for a bullrider), it was only a matter of time. I sure hope this weekend allows both of them to show off what made them exceptional riders and they're able to ride extremely well so they can go out in style. I will miss seeing both of them ride.
