It didn't look like to me any of the rookies really wanted it bad enough during the Finals. Besides Mike Lee and Chris Shivers' dissapearing acts during the Finals, the poor performance of the rookies was my second biggest disappointment. None of them looked comfortable at all.
I guess they can't all be like Zack Brown. That boy put on a show at the Finals last year..

The big city and all that comes with it definitely take it's toll on those rookies. The are used to riding on TV but when you get there it's a whole different ball game. Zack Brown had experience dealing with all of that since he had qualified for the NFR on at least one occasion. Not all of the rookies caved, but the ones everybody was watching didnt' show very well.

Brian had an amazing finals! I got to sit with his family and friends and they were all really great. Brian looks like he is about 8 but it sounds like he is a really great kid and not only loves what he is doing but has amazing support of his family and friends.
You also missed two other rookies that finished the finals in the top 20! Finishing third in the finals was Helton. A great rookie who really challenged everyone right to the end. Heading into the final night he was well positioned to take it all if Marchi or McBride stumbled at all. He is one sticky rider! Also lets not forget Keith Roquemore! He came in as an alternate as well and did not ride in the first round and still ended up 14th at the end of the finals.
LJ and Travis did not have as good of finals as I think we all thought they would due to their great success going into the finals but they did fare better then many of the veteran cowboys. They fought hard and I think that next year they will better know what to expect and they will settle into their routine much quicker.

I wasn't focusing on all the rookies. My "dissapointment" comment was based around Lostroh, Jenkins, McIntyre, and Oliveira. All the hype was surrounding them before the Finals, and they didn't get the job done. The other rookies you listed did ride well, but they didn't have the pressure of the ROTY race. That was my point.

Any rookie who qualifies for the finals is in the hunt for ROTY because of all the money a guy can win. Had Helton won the finals, he would have won ROTY. I agree though, all but a couple of Rookies didnt do well.
Keith Roquemore sure did want it at the finals. He really likes bulls into his hand and if he would keep his feet in them til the end he might have been even higher up in the standings. He came really close to riding both Zorro and Crossfire.

Cody, that's a good point. I'm not sure that is such a good thing that a rookie can win it all just by winning the Finals. And Helton came awfully close to doing just that. They could struggle all year and barely make it into the top-45, then win the Finals, and be named ROTY. They need to do something else to determine ROTY.
