Okay, so there's been a lot of controversy over some people always catching knots when riding and therefor cheating. It is legal to catch knots once out of the chute. Some riders seemed to be called for cheating more than others though?? Oh, one more thing: Everyone says that Chris catches knots, but I just never see it.

I think that it is cheating It is giving unfair advantage to the rider. I think that if you cant cover a bull (feet out of the rope) then you shouldn't be riding. Oh and with Chris, i have filmed a few telecasts and if you zoom in on his feet a few jumps out he catches knots. But he is really good at hiding it most of the time. The reason some guys get caught more than others is the favoritism factor, that and some guys are more obvious about it

Yeah, I think it's cheating too. And some guys can hide it well and others can't. It's just too bad the ones who do it don't always get called for it. oh well.

Catching knots is only illegal if it is done before the bull leaves the chutes. If your spurs hook in the rope after the bull has left the chutes it is not illegal.

Any guy that moves his feet a lot while covering a bull has a good chance of catching a knot. That is absolutely not illegal. If that is the only time Chris catches them then people need to get off his case for it. As Terri said, it is ONLY illegal if the knot is caught BEFORE leaving the chute.

THANK YOU! When and if (because ive never seen it) chris catches his knots it is after he has left the chute, therefore it isnt illegal. Everybody says he catches his knots and gets away with it...has anybody been seeing how hes been riding lately...not too well, that leaves me to assume that he doesnt catch knots because when you do its not easy to fall off.

Yeah. I agree. If he were always catching knots, he probably would be riding a little better right now. Some people say that that the reason he hurt himself so badly in Laughlin, was because he was catching knots. I don't see that at all.
