With steroid use/abuse back in the news this week, it got me to thinking: does the PBR (or any of the other associations) have any rules regarding steroid or other illegal drug use? Are the riders subject to periodic testing? Heck, for that matter, are the bulls subject to testing, like horses in racing or other competition are? Just wondering, since I've never seen/heard anything regarding this subject.
Oh, and by the way, I am in no way implying that I think any of the riders in the PBR or other associations participate in illegal drug use....

Dana, it could happen.
I'm not implying that anyone is taking anything either, but it wouldn't surprise me if some of them were. The bulls too for that matter.
PBR riders are just like other athletes IMO. I put them right up there with the rest of them. So it's definitely a possibility.
That is, unless they have regular testing. And if they don't have testing, they need to get it going. The rodeo athletes of the world shouldn't be exempt from the steroid testing just because they are cowboys.
And once again, I don't necessarily think anyone is on steroids, and I'm not sure if it would help if they were. But it's definitely not out of the question.

sadly....it wouldnt suprise me really if it was happening. hopefully it isnt. I think todd had mentioned something about this in another thread..yea i think he was talkin about edgard because his head was lookin bigger or something. (nah, i think he just shaved his beard..lol) I dont think it is happenin, but im not nieve enough to ignore the fact that the possibility is VERY strong. If there arent any testing..they need to get it. I think as long as these paychecks are gettin bigger...as long as the competition is gettin harder...the desire...is getting...that much greater.

just a lil added note from me...I don't know and seriously doubt it, about PBR but I have heard some stories from.....ummm a lil birdie that has been in and outta the rodeo circuit for many years, that with all the traveling and hours put into driving and competing that the abuse ( not roids either) is there.....

There some guys out there that use drugs. One of the guys who now brings bulls to a few PBR events used to snort a few lines of coke before getting on his bulls. Another guy started smoking the wacky weed and it pretty much ruined him as a bull rider. He had a TON of talent, was a high school champion, and could have made it big riding both bulls and bareback horses. Obviously Im not going to say who these guys are for privacys sake, but the point is the drug use is out there.
As far as steroids..Some people might use them, but I see them as a disadvantage. More muscle equals less flexability. Plus, more/bulkier muscle means the tendency to pull or even tear muscles more often.

Maybe even pain pills (unless you put the lime in the coconut and call me in the morning). charlie ha! i luv that song! ;D i never thought about that. about the drugs...what do ya expect? of course there are guys using...obviously. just sucks to think they cant cowboy up and do it the right way. It cancels everything they worked on imo...i mean it cost to buy the crap...well thats outta their paychecks and then it ruins the health that they depend on...their physical structure fails...there mental structures plunder...ok cowboy you go do your thing if you think its gonna help, but i dont wanna hear anymore comeback stories on the tv about your struggles! who i was addressing....i have no clue. Ive just heard to many stories from people i have happened to know get involved....pisses me off.
