How can anybody say that Guilherme should have won when he only made it to the short go because Brendon and Paulo got hurt?

The last time I checked, all 45 riders signed up at the beginning of the year knowing the points swing at the finals. They all new the rules and played by them. Adriano earned this one. He finished just a few points shy of the event title as well. This will go down as one of the best performances over the last 2 weeks in bull riding history. I like Marchi. He just didn't have the Finals he needed. Moraes knows how he feels (2004 losing to Mike Lee after leading going in). Is this season that different than 2004. Yeah, Adriano took care of business. Exactly. This system forces the top dogs to perform under the bright lights on the biggest stage in order to win the big one. It's how it should be without a doubt. Guilherme had great bulls throughout the week as well, as did Mike Lee. No excuses for either.

Nobody wanted Guilherme to win any more than I did, but Guilherme's loss is no ones fault but his own. He fell off bulls that he could've - and should've - rode. I don't know if it was nerves, a bum streak that hit at the worst possible time, or Guilherme thought he had the buckle already wrapped up, but HE was in control of his destiny, and he failed himself. The dq on the slap - I agree - it IS very questionable but we ain't judging. And if Guilherme would've rode more of his bulls in the earlier rounds, he would've covered his butt for something like this happening in the later rounds.
However, that being said, Guilherme should still be very proud of his year and all that he has accomplished. He worked hard all year and showed that he has what it takes to be #1, even if he fell short in the final moments. He has plenty of good years left to try again, and I think we'll see him win it all one of these years soon.
I never thought Adriano had a chance at the title this year - either in gaining enough points to win the title, or of being capable by having both his mental and physical game in order. But I applaud Adriano's effort and the tenacity that he exerted over the course of the 8 rounds. No one is more deserving of the title than Adriano. He won it fair and square, and if Guilherme is honest with himself, he knows that. I've been an on and off again a fan of Adriano, over the years. Loved him, then disliked him, then loved him again. His past performances in the realm of poor sportsmanship are what lost my respect for him, but since he's seemed to get his emotions under control, he's slowly earned back my respect. His determination and guttin' it out over the course of the week really impressed me. And, as he has in the past, he'll be an excellent ambassador for the PBR in the year 2007.
Great job, Adriano!!

i dont care what any of you say. me,my family and my friends who watch it HATE that Adriano won. that is what we believe and everything you people say doesn't hurt me one bit. i am entitled to my own opinion and that is what i believe. Oh and none of you notice his attitude. remember at the end of last years finals he yelled at the camera in "his language"(cant spell it.) he cursed at the camera and i know because my friend speaks the same language. and i can name plenty other times he was really rude. yea i know every rider gets an attitude and we all know that but did you see how all the other guys were around Marchi when Moraes won. they even knew he shouldn't have won. but go ahead and say what ever you want. it wont hurt me. i really dont care if I'm standing 1 to a million. it dont hurt.

It is ok to have your feelings about a cowboy and i accept that. He said some things last year he shouldn't have. In the heat of the battle though, you sometimes need to realize people will say things. It is part of the adrenaline rush that goes with being competitive. We have all in the heat of the moment said something we shouldn't have only to take it back and move on. Marchi had a great year and yes if the season ended in Columbus you are absolutely right. That is unfourtunately not the case. The top 45 had to mount 8 more bulls and after they rode and only then could it be determined. Marchi wound up alot closer than he should have with clark and crimber dropping out because of injury. If you are a bullriding fan you will realize that no matter how well the regular season went you have to finish it. Marchi did not. YOU will have to live with it.
I wonder how Wiley Peterson should he won more events than anybody last year?
Congrats Adriano you are a champion.

I admire and respect Adriano as a Christian, family man, and a bullrider. I am happy that he has his third world title. However, when you put his 2006 season beside Marchi's there is no comparsion. When I think of the word champion I think of someone who has show superiority over a period of time, for a season. Marchi has been on top all year and has been consistent. A champion is not made in two weekends. Adriano will tell you the same thing. That is why he has a problem with the point system. It doesn't give us an "accurate", true champion, but someone who draws good and who is feeling healthy. Several riders feel the same. For example, what if the leader for the whole season, say just extremely ahead of everyone going into the Finals, breaks his leg the first night of the Finals and his out. What, he loses the title of champion, b/c someone can pass him in a weekend. It is who he has been all year long. And everything he has accomplished, worked and strived for is wiped out. We would really look at that person as the champion of the 2006 season. That isn't what would have happened a few years ago. The rules were changed to bring more people in. To bing more hype and excitement in. Granted it has done that. I was on the edge of my seat last night. But in the process of trying to keep up w/ the "Jones", I believe we have taken the integrity away from the true meaning of the word champion. I don't believe it holds the meaning as it did 5 years ago. Isn't that what the whole cowboy way is about. Earning something completley, no cutting corners, no making things easy or taking the easy way out, integrity and the truth. I realize that Marchi shouldn't of even been in the short-go, and I am fine with that, but he did get in and ride, there is incomplete evidence that his hand slapped the bull. It was really inconclusive. To have your whole season to come down to a technicality, to be given a score, and it be taken away is a shame. I was having flashbacks to Jody Newberry last year. The rule is there to make sure that a hand/armslap doesn't help the cowboy stay on. Marchi's contact didn't help him stay on. You know what the funny thing is? I am really not even a Marchi fan. Sure he is a superb rider, but he is not my favorite. I am friends with some other guy on tour-so I root for them. Yes, I am old-school, a traditionalist. However, the question is: If now is the correct and right way to crown a champion, why wasn't it set-up that way 13 years ago when the PBR was founded? I'd bet the ranch on it-its because that isn't the way they defined a champion back then. We've sold-out, compromised to become apart of the "in" crowd, the so-called "major leaguers". And that my friends are two words that should never be attached to the word cowboy.

No one was bashing in the least. Just stating an opinion-didn't even comment on yours. I thought that was what a board was about- sharing thoughts and opinons. Sorry to offend you.

jak - First off: I see you're new here - welcome aboard! Always good to increase our membership.
2nd: It was my interpretation that mlm18's comments were directed at ChrisShiversFan's post, rather than your comment; however, I may be wrong. Only mlm18 can clarify that. We try to keep this a happy place here, even if we do have opinions that disagree with each other.

ya no kidding..... Why cant people come to terms that Adriano rode better than Guilherme at the finals, and therefore won the title. Im sick of people saying that Guilherme deserves it more etc etc. Every single rider of that top ten standing this year deserved it as much as anybody. Guilherme came into the finals controlling his fate, he could have won the title if he rode bulls and didnt give into pressure...but he cracked and rode only 2 or 3 bulls, and he lost his chance because of his own mistakes it wasnt anybody elses fault. Adriano is a vetran hes knows that tricks of the trade...he came into the fianls with everything to gain he rode bulls like nobody has seen him do in a loooong time. I understand that people think the title should be determined on the season not the two weekends, but thats the sport, it happened its done and Adriano came up at the top...he was the best overall rider this year .... he might have had his ups and downs but so does everybody else. Unfortunately Guilherme had his 'down' at the wrong time of the season, and it costed him big time. I say good for Adriano he proved EVERYBODY wrong that his age is going to prevent him from gaining another world title, he right now is probably the most talented 36 year old on tour. ...and the most talented one on tour....even Ty Murray thinks soo hah

No offence taken. I understand that this is a place where we can express our opinions to each other, ChrisShiversFan just seemed very aggrivated at those whom had already posted for expressing a view different from that of her own. Perhaps "bash" wasn't the best word of choice I could have used. Sorry for my poor word selection. And yes, my comment was directed at ChrisShiversFan.

Actually, to set the record straight, Adriano was ranked first in the BFTS for nearly the same amount of events as Marchi wasn't he? It seems like Marchi was there longer because there was only a few events throughout the summer months. Adriano was in first place when there was an event every week. I'd be willing to be Adriano was in first place just about as long as Marchi was as far as events go. So that argument isn't necessarily an accurate one. I don't feel like breaking down the standings though, so someone else can if they want. And jak, it's great to have you here. I can already tell you will bring some great input to the forum. I love a good debate.........or I will in about two or three months anyway. I'm worn out for this year.

According to every rule book Ive read, it makes no difference if a rider is trying to help himself or not - you touch the bull or yourself with your free hand, you are DQ'ed. Guilherme's style makes him prone to slaps, and I think he slapped his bull in round 7 but nobody caught it. The system isnt perfect and it certainly wont make everyone happy. The PRCA's system isnt much different - $14,000 per round at the NFR. The 15th place guy can get hot and win a world title, its been proven.

HEy ChrsiShiversFan --you are right and sorry if i stomped on you opinion.....Something about Adriano you may not see is how much he appreaciates people....(little Story here))
In 2004 i was in the USA Fighting bulls for the PBR and had to do a few promtional spots with the man he was great asking about family and how i was managing ( I have a wife and four children) with them still being in OZ...ANyway we met at a few events and had the usaul small talk not much more as we each had things to do...
At the 2004 World finals I was fighting (trying to) in the Freestyle finals, Walking through the fan zone with my family (who had finally made itover) adriano spotted me,, He stoppped doing the interview he was doing asked them to wait there as this was private> He then came over and to say hi to my family and wish them all the best, and say how good it was to see them in the USA. There was no camera's no nothing.
To me and my family so far away from home this meant alot espically as i didnt think he would remember to much as he see's so many people and is always so busy...
well that is my short story.....MY hat off to you in a way Chrisshivversfan for sticking to you guns --takes metal to do that. But IMO you are a little off the mark..
Regards Brian Ranse

I still can't believe Adriano pulled it off. I think he came into the finals in 2005 in 12th and finished 7th. This year 4th, and rolls out 1st with a Wells Fargo truck following him back to Keller, TX.
On Marchi: Man I like this guy. He's young, and faced adversity in not winning the last 2 years. I hope he takes about 1 day to get over this setback and performs just as he did in 2006. He's got a bright future.
Man, the PBR website better put out those DVD's of the Finals like they did last season.
